"yea but what if he found that big oil fill just as the world was trying to find something else? What if he came up with Allinol just to make alternative fuel look bad?"
"what if!" Sir Axelrod snapped "you're basing this on a what if!"
"okay! thats it!" someone snapped and everyone immediately vacated the area as Mater narrowed his eyes at Axelrod.
"wait! somebody save me!" Axelrod yelped "hes crazy!" he looked at Mater with furiously narrowed eyes "keep away you idiot!"
"don't talk to him like that" Lightning snapped from his position beside Holly
"Mater!" Finn warned, unsure what in the world the tow truck was up to
"Mater!"
Lightning could hear the time on the bomb ticking down and raced to Maters side, pressing himself completely up against the tow truck. Mater glanced down at him
"Lightning go away"
"no"
"Lightning you could get hurt"
"I'm not going anywhere, Mater" Lightning said, his tone full of finality
The duo slowly moved closer to Axelrod, and he yelped
"SOMEONE DO SOMETHING!"
Finn and Holly shifted back on their tires, their eyes closed to hide from the sure to come explosion, while police hid behind the rim of the stage
"you're insane you are!" Axelrod snapped. The timer hit one "DEACTIVATE!"
"voice accepted. Bomb deactivated. Have a nice day Sir Axelrod" the bomb chirped
Mater sat back on his tires, smirking triumphantly as the police came and escorted Axelrod away. Sensing the need for some provacy between the two best friends, Holly and Finn sped away with a hurried 'we'll meet up soon'.
Mater was silent as he looked down at his best friend. Finally a sigh escaped his lips.
"why didnt you leave?"
"because-" Mater cut him off, worry searing in his green eyes
"Lightning if I had been wrong you woulda been blown to bits"
"You weren't"
"you didnt know that" Mater insisted
Lightning sighed
"Mater I wasn't going to leave you all by yourself"
"why not? Lightning I didnt want you getting hurt"
"and I didnt want to loose you!" Lightning snapped suddenly. Mater recoiled in shock "you want to know why I didnt leave when you told me to? You want to know why I put blind faith in you, just to be with you?" Mater nodded slowly "because I fell in love with you, Mater" his paint was turning a darker red in embarrassment "and I couldn't let you die in front of me. So I waited beside you. If you die, I die Mater"
Mater stared at him in silence for a few moments, his brain processing what he had just been told. Then, he looked confused again
"Lightning... you would die for me?"
Lightning nodded
"Of course I would, Mater"
Mater was silent, and a grin spread across his lips followed by a soft chuckle
Lightning seemed frustrated.
"whats funny?" he snapped, worried Mater was laughing at him
"I done knew I'd made a god choice"
"in what?"
"In the one I love" before Lightning could say a word Mater had their lips together.
