Why…
Ayanami-sama… why had he refused?
Konatsu's mind drew a blank to his rhetoric question, and the boy had to consciously repress the wave of sheer frustration he felt at his commanding officer.
Katsur- No, Landkarte, had been correct, angeringly so. His current level of power wasn't enough, not to destroy the Ghost.
… So why?
Why had Ayanami-sama rejected his request? He could still recall the phrase his superior had spoken, the words had been calm and collected, straight to the point, amethyst eyes revealing nothing.
A single syllable had been enough to shatter what hope remained in his heart.
Hands clenched at their sides.
No matter... he would find a way, he would kill him… His emotionless visage flickered with cold rage at the thought of the Ghost.
He'd destroy him so utterly that nothing would remain... A fresh wave of anger washed over the boy, and a vicious smirk, so unlike the old him, flickered on his lips, promising blood and revenge.
… Because he deserved it, and more.
The Ghost who had killed-
Don't change... The you of now, the you untainted by hatred-
That stray memory, catching onto the edge of his consciousness- and with that sudden recollection, everything-
That invisible barrier of cold rage, which had destroyed any and all of his other emotions, it fractured like glass, shattered into nothingness, leaving nothing but grief behind.
Clear, translucent diamonds fell to the ground, shattering into a thousand shards and staining the carpet a darker shade of blue.
A soft, jagged gasp.
His eyes closed, transparent liquid sliding down his cheeks, catching on his eyelashes, staining his uniform black.
And then... he wept.
Curling into a ball on the corner of his bed, trembling uncontrollably, with pale lines trailing down his face, the boy wept.
