This is just a small little ficlet about Remus and Sirius contemplating their love for each other at night. I got this idea when writing an essay about 'Who I hold closest to my heart' a few months ago and looking down and seeing how the ice cubes turned silver and sparkly in the light. Enjoy!
Warning: Slash, Angst, Sirius/Remus.

Ice Cubes
Remus Lupin looked down, scowling at those stupid ice cubes. Sitting in his dark dorm, filled with the sounds of Peter's snoring, James's mumbling, and Sirius's tossing. Sirius. That's why he sat there, awake far longer then he should have been with the OWL's coming up, in the darkness. He had gotten a glass of water from the kitchen and had finished all his homework for the month, and still wasn't tired the slightest. Now, looking down into his glass, he saw that the way the moon reflected off the ice cubes made them look like mesmerizing silver glitter. They sparkled and shined the same why Sirius's eyes did when he had a good idea for a prank, or just whenever Marauding could be ensured. They taunted him, laughing at the fact that Sirius wasn't his and never would be. "You may not love me today, tomorrow, or ever, but I will love you until it kills me, and, even then, you'll be in my heart, Sirius." He murmured under his breath before taking refuge in his bed, letting sleep take him, those dreaded ice cubes heavy on his mind.
Sirius didn't think to tell him he'd been awake the whole time, tossing and turning as he tried to clear his head enough to fall asleep. Hearing Remus's whisper, he froze. No, it couldn't be true. Remus would never love him. Though still, a small part of him couldn't help but hope it wasn't his sleepy mind hearing what it wanted to. Maybe he had fallen asleep or was truly turning insane. But at that moment, it didn't matter to Sirius. He smiled, enjoying that strange feeling, the feeling of being in love. Falling into an uneven sleep, he breathed a sigh of regret, knowing in the morning there would be nothing left to do but act like nothing happened.
Neither boy was aware that the very next morning when they woke up, Sirius would make a snap decision and talk to Remus of what he heard. Neither could know Sirius Black, suave Casanova, would be stuttering and blushing, fumbling and awkward the next morning while speaking to Remus. Neither would know how Sirius would finally get the nerves to say calmly to hiswerewolf "When I say, "I love you," it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you. And I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're my Moony, my best friend, Remus Lupin, and the person I have been in love with since third year," and that that werewolf would launch himself into the dog animagus's arms, assaulting him with his lips. Neither could guess, neither could do anything but hope for the best.
Yeah, short, sweet, to the point, and with only a little bit a dialogue in it. I am actually pretty proud of this piece. Review! And, check out my poll even though I don't have any Remus/Sirius options up yet, there probably will be in the near future. Enjoy! Review!
