Chapter 1: News

"I've won, near." My last, true words. The last of my composed, elegant self. All the rest was crazed screaming created from my desire to win. But what else was I to do. There is no point in giving up. By doing that you are letting them win without having to try. People like that would not have been in my world.

That was my mindset. To keep trying. To become better than ever before, than anyone else!

I have not always been like that, not completely. Throughout my life I have always been on top and loved it. I never even had to try that much. To what seemed like vigorous work to others was mere child's play for my powerful mind. Because of this I never thought about becoming better. No one I knew could match my knowledge and popularity. The straight A's, the friendly guy, the playboy, the healthy athlete. To think that this alone was enough to satisfy me for most of my life displeases me. Already being this high up meant there was nothing else for me to reach for.

Becoming tired of being on top, I knew I had to find something else to entertain me. That's when the book came along.

It gave me power. Being a good student was pathetic compared to this god-like weapon. There were always other intelligent people in the world, all of them just more puppets in society. But this book changed everything. I was no longer working for my own life. I would cleanse the world and save millions! I would be god and no one would stop me!

This world was wrong and it needed to change! No more crime! No more problems! I would be the saviour of this world and create a utopia made only for the best people earth can muster!

I had not predicted the... bumps along the road. By far the largest and most troublesome was L.

I have to admit, it was rather refreshing to meet him. Finally there was someone who could almost match my intellect. But I was still far better, in every way.

It took a lot of time and work but after almost a year I witnessed his limp corpse, laying helplessly on the ground. It was pitiful.

At last all the strings were cut. I was free. Everything I had worked up to was now coming together! I would create the new world!

But, of course, there were more issues I had to deal with.

He was not even an adult. He had probably just left school and now here he was trying to take down the most mighty man in the world. A cheap copy of the great detective L trying to live up to his name. It was foolish.

But here I lay. Defeated. How? How could I have been tricked. I am a god! You cannot destroy me! I will win! You will bow down and quiver whenever you hear my name!

It's still there. In my hand. The paper. It's small but if I'm careful I can write it.

I will win! I am god!

"BREAKING NEWS"

"We have just been given unconfirmed reports carrying some shocking news. It is possible that Kira is now dead. Some eye witnesses tell us that they saw a man, with heavy injuries, running along the front but the biggest piece of evidence so far is a message, possibly made by Kira himself, written on this building you see behind me. It was written an hour ago by window cleaner, Yaalon Akamine, who is now unfortunately dead. The cause of death was of course, a heart attack."

God is dead. American detectives. Note book.
