Hey, so, like, this is my first time writing so I'm a bit rusty. Okay, a LOT rusty but that's what the review button is for, right? So, without further ado, I give you…
Prologue
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday to you!"
With that, they brought out a delicious-looking red velvet cake with lit candles on top. "Come on Selenia, make a wish!"
I wish for something new this year. Something different. I thought, and blew the 15 candles atop of my red-velvet cake.
The next thing I knew, all my friends and family were putting cake on everyone else's face! It was an amusing scene to watch, my mom looking ready to jump on whoever tried to put cake on her cheek, my 9 year-old brother running around like a free prisoner without even a single icing on his face, my best friend Devon, flinging cake from a spoon into anybody within 2 feet from him, and of course, Daniel, I love him and all but sometimes he can be a major buzz kill. Like right now, I can see him hiding under the table cloth. Every once in a while would check if it's safe to come out.
I approached his hiding place and threw every bit of the cake I had to anyone I saw.
"Hey!" I shouted once I lifted the table cloth.
"Aah!" He yelled as he saw me figuring out his hide-out. I climbed in and shook off the icing in my hair while he helped brush the remaining cake on my arm.
"I'm sorry I'm not out there. It's just that, it-"
"Doesn't quite seem to be your type of game?"
He smiled and said, "Yeah, again, I'm sorry, I tried to blend in but, when they started throwing cake… I panicked. I'm sorry." He looked at me apologetically and tried to smile.
I sighed, "Yeah, I know. It's alright. Besides, I was getting bored of watching them anyways. I'll just stay down here for a while."
We sat there under the table, waiting for the cake-throwing to stop when we heard someone scream a bloodcurdling scream.
I flinched as other people soon joined in the screaming. Soon, their were no more laughter, no more cake splatter. It was just running and screaming.
I tried to drown out the sounds but, every time I closed my eyes, all I could see were the scenes my brain visualized for all the noises it heard. It was terrifying.
So this is what Daniel feels like whenever he's afraid. I thought. Then I remembered. Daniel!
I looked at my side just to see that my best-friend was no longer there. I looked behind me and beside me but I couldn't find him. I strained to listen for Daniel's voice outside of our hiding place but, I couldn't hear anything.
Wait, what?
Why couldn't I hear anything? There were no more running, screaming and crying. What is going on?
I summoned up all the courage that I had and lifted the tablecloth a little bit to see what was going on.
"Wow," I said. "This isn't my house anymore."
And I got out under the table to look around.
