Clouds

By the bird told me

Numbuh Three sang lightly to herself as she played with her new Springtime Sun and Fun Rainbow Monkey. It was the perfect day to be outside, and to sit on the roof of the KND Treehouse, and she wanted to take advantage of this perfect weather.

She sighed, hugging her Rainbow Monkey close to her heart, and looking up at the fluffy white clouds as they passed lazily in the bright blue sky. "Look" she said to her plush toy"I see a Rainbow Monkey! Just like you" Giggling, she held her toy out, arms extended, and compared it to the cloud she was pointing out.

"Are you gonna talk to that cruddy Rainbow Monkey all afternoon" Kuki turned her head to see Numbuh Four settle next to her. "It ain't gonna say anything back, ya know." Squinting up at the cloud through his shaggy bangs, he added, "and that cloud looks more like a...a...aw, I dunno. A cloud."

Kuki couldn't help but giggle at Wally's lack of creativity. She laid on the hard surface of the rooftop, deciding to use her Rainbow Monkey as a pillow. After losing that first cloud, she turned her attention to a different one. "Ooh" she pointed up at the cloud, "That one looks kind of like one of your Yipper cards."

Wally sat up and looked at the cloud his friend was pointing at. "Yeah" he said, sighing and pretending to be interested. Laying with his hands behind his head, he turned his attention to Kuki as she pointed out clouds. Heat began to rise in his cheeks as his heart started beating at what seemed like eleventy ka-billion beats a minute.

He sighed, trying to ignore these feelings, and heard a light giggle. Kuki looked so cute when she giggled like that. "That one looks like Bradley! Hi, Bradley" she waved hello to the cloud.

That simple mentioning of Bradley made Wally suddenly recall the time at the hospital. He had the perfect opportunity to tell Kuki how he felt, but he blew it. Sighing, he wondered if this was the right time to tell her.

"You know, seeing that Bradley cloud reminded me of something." Kuki said, smiling, "You never told me what you had to say. At the hospital"

Wally's eyes grew to twice their normal size. Or so it seemed. She just had to mention that, didn't she?

He laughed nervously, and cleared his throat. "Y-you see...I - I - you..." As Wally stammered, Kuki sat, looking at him questioningly. He took a breath and started over. It was now or, well, some other time that wasn't in the near future.

"Y-you see, Kuki...I r-really...umm..." Now Wally felt his heart pounding at eleventy and six ka-jillion beats a minute, feeling the heat rush to his face in a matter of seconds, and imagining how red his face must look. "I r-really care about you...and I - heh-heh - think I m-might..."

Before he could finish, the two of them heard a blaring siren from the treehouse.

"Yay!" Kuki cheered, getting up from her sitting position. "We have a mission" She skipped happily to the stairwell leading to the inside of the HQ.

Wally was behind her, but he noticed she left her Rainbow Monkey behind. "W-wait" he said, picking up the toy with 2 fingers on the rainbow on top of its antenna, "You forgot this."

Kuki snatched the toy, and held it cradled in her arm. "Thanks, Wally" she said in gratitude. She kissed him on the cheek and headed into the treehouse...

Leaving Wally standing alone with a hand on his cheek and the biggest smile on his face. Before heading in himself, he saw a cloud slightly resembling him and Kuki pass by.
