A/N: I have an early work day tomorrow morning, but am I being responsible and going to bed early? No. Instead, I am indulging in my Sherlolly feels, listening to music and imagining a first kiss in season four, etc. This, is its outcome. x

The Most Remarkable Sensation

Molly took two careful steps back and looked at Sherlock with a mixture of amusement and worry. He merely stared at her, in what could only be described as shock.

"What—" he paused to swallow nervously, 'What was that?"

There was a smile on her face as she looked down at her two hands clasped together.

"Well…" she said, taking a deep breath, "What do you think it was?"

At her response, the detective paused to think. All his detective reasoning was in tact so he most certainly knew what it was. He observed her behaviour, observed his own, recounted the incidents that had led to the most current one transpiring and shook his head. It made sense, and yet it made none.

Molly stood where she was, patiently waiting for his response. There was a hint of a smirk she was hiding. He could tell from the way she was biting down on the insides of her mouth. Observing her mouth made him aware of his own. The air was dry around his lips. He was not thirsty, but his mouth now seemed to have developed a nagging need for something. He brought his fingers up to his lips, tentatively touching them, realising with a shock how the skin of his fingertips felt against his own lips. He caught a flash of Molly's hidden smile, which she had quickly hidden again with a small cough and a hand above her own mouth.

Then, it was his turn to smile.

"What?" she asked, catching his smile, "Have you got an answer?"
"Yes, I believe I have." he said, placing his hands behind his back.
"Go on then," she whispered, a gleam in her eye.

The detective stepped forward to the pathologist until their faces were only an inch apart. His hands unclasped themselves from behind him and moved to hold her face.

"It was…the most remarkable sensation in the world," he breathed, grinning at her.
"Re-ally?" she asked, genuinely surprised.
"Yes."
"You really are a drama queen." she said with a laugh, "Are you sure you're not joking?"
"I don't make jokes," he teased, his nose almost touching hers.
"Would you like one more then?" she asked, teasing him back.
"Please."

The pathologist grinned and moved to kiss the detective for a second time. He really was a fast learner. By the third one, it was he who had fully convinced her that it was indeed, the most remarkable sensation in the world.
