Little did she know that it was on this little night that Artemis, the goddess of the moon and hunt's, life would be changed forever.
A Promise Made
For Artemis Night time was the most pleasant time of the day. And that wasn't just because she was the goddess of the moon, but that came advantages. For Example, moonlight swims in the forest river was her favorite. That was what she was doing now.
When Artemis was a young goddess, she and the nymphs that used to live in the same forest would play in the water. She floated in the water as she thought about how much It was when she younger, not having to do anything. In the middle of her thinking, she felt something bump against her leg. Artemis jumped then cursed herself.
"What am I jumping for? I can destroy anything I lay my eyes on with my hands tied behind my back. I need to stop being such a little god-ling and grow up sometimes". She thought to herself.
She looked down and smiled as she watched the baby otter look up her with frightened eyes. She reached down but the otter flinched and swam away from her. She looked at it with loving eyes and whispered to it.
"It is alright. I promise I will not let any harm come to you" she smiled and reached out her hand again.
Cautious of her, it swam out slowly. It swam up to her hand and sniffed it. Artemis giggled gently as it licked her hand and gently pet it's head . Soon it slowly backs at least a foot away from her.
As if signaling the other otters, the young one swims out a little more and chirps. The adults are the first to come out. When they see there is no danger the little ones are allowed to join them. Soon there was a whole family full of otters surrounding the goddess.
The otters swam all around her. Beneath her legs. Between her arms. Around her waist. The feel of fur on her feet, legs and waist tickling her in the process. The goddess's laughter ringed out like little bells.
It was only after the laughing calmed down that Artemis noticed the one of the younger otters was intently watching something move around the now-dark forest. In 'hunter mode', the goddess swam over to the baby otter, looked around. Her dark brown hair hangs down past her hips, covering her breast and between her legs as she stood up.
"Go now. Return to your mother" Artemis commanded, her voice filled with power, as she noticed a tall shadow moving swiftly across the forest floor. The otter quickly swam after the other otters as they quickly swam beneath the waves.
She watched as the figure went from tree to tree, hiding behind each one. She conjured up her magic arrow. It was made of the moon and stars and she could guarantee would never miss the intended target.
