A/N: Well I definitely changed a few things…. Not only did I try to correct spelling, but I took out some dumb paragraphs that my 14 year old self wrote. Hopefully this will read smoother and won't be agonizing to read. Enjoy! Let me know how you feel about the chapter and the changes.
A life. A school. A relationship?
Chapter 1:
As she awoke up from her bed, she stood up feeling relaxed and comfortable. She took a moment to dust the sleep from her eyes as she prepared to get ready to start her day. She walked around her bed after having made it and pressed play on the stereo system. Music crept out from the speakers as she put her indigo hair up and began her morning stretches.
Dancing came to life as the stereo played an old classic tune. She stood still for a moment and then stretch out her right arm in front of her. Turning her head back, she stretched out her left arm behind her and slowly spread her legs apart. She turned her head again as she moved both of her arms in a wave motion, her stomach following the movement. It looked as if she were unbalanced but she was as graceful as water.
She stilled in motion as she bought her left arm back in front of her as she balanced on one foot and then spinned. Arms came together in a circle in front of her. She slowly came to a halt as she jumped into the air with her feet touching. She landed gently on the ground barely making a noise on impacted.
Her hands moved above her head as her feet moved back to the first position. Her arms spread out to the sides of her as she waved her arms again, her arms slowly rising to her head. Her legs parted from each other, farther and farther apart until she hit the ground doing the splits. Moving her right leg out of the splits, her arms moved down and she was about to dance some more when a pounding came from her front door.
"Turn off that damn music it 7 o'clock in the morning," an angry voice sounded form the other side of her door.
Slightly scared, she got up quickly to shut off her stereo. She loudly muttered an apology to her impatient neighbor as she sat on her bed, listening to the ranting and footsteps as they fade away. She sighed relieved, feeling slightly bad. She never liked causing conflict. She preferred to stay clear of it. Having someone be angry at her defeated her spirit and with that she fell back on her bed to look up at the ceiling contemplating her life.
The sound of her alarm interrupted her thoughts. She looked at her phone and silenced the alarm as she got up. "Time to get ready", she spoke out loud as she made her way to her bathroom.
She owned an apartment that wasn't that big, it was meant to only house one or two people. But even if it wasn't that big, she was just happy that there was enough space for her to dance. Her bed was placed against the corner wall with her small TV set on the opposite end of the bed for her to watch while lying down. She had a TV tray set up next to her bed that held her stereo and her closet was beside the TV. Her kitchen was on the left side of the room across from her bedroom while the bathroom was next to the front door to the right. There were no flashy colors or decorative personality traits. Her apartment without her in it would be bare of life.
Once she was ready, she checked over how she looked in the mirror. She was wearing a black shoulder-sleeve shirt that had a round neck lining and knee-long shorts. Her hair was up an out of her face, except for some bangs the framed her face. She judged her complexion as being too pale and her lavender eyes too big for her face.
Of course, she would get compliments on her eyes from time to time but she never really liked them. She was almost ready to head out, checking her phone she realized she needed to hurry up. She grabbed her oversized jacket and quickly grabbed a piece of bread and fled from her home.
When she arrived at her destination it was 10 in the morning and a young blond haired girl stood outside the flower shop she worked at. The blonde had an apron on along with gardening gloves as she attended some of the plants outside the shop.
"Well aren't you running late. Did you get caught up in dancing again, Hinata?" the blond girl teased as she smiled at Hinata.
"Yes, I-I'm sorry Ino for loosing track of time," Hinata stuttered, feeling slightly guilty even if she knew her friend was only teasing.
"Well no worries Hinata. Just tidy up the shop and I relieve you from your shift in a few hours for your break. I got to run down town to pick up a few things for my folks. Also if you don't mind, my parents asked if you wouldn't mind babysitting my little brother until they get home after your shift," Ino mentioned and Hinata agreed to babysit before she went into the flower shop.
Hinata gathered her own gardening gloves and apron form the back room that had her name tag on it. Ino came in shortly afterwards, placing her materials in the back room and grabbing her purse. She said her farewells to Hinata as she left her friend to do her duty.
Hinata whispered a farewell to Ino, smiling graciously after her. Ino had always been one of Hinata's closest friends. Ino had always been there for her and Ino had helped her out so much. Especially with the money problems Hinata has been having with owning her own apartment and saving up for college. It required a lot of work to provide for oneself and to save up money. Without Ino's generous parents, Hinata didn't think she could of made it this far and be able to save up for college as well.
Ino's family has always been on the wealthy side of life due to an inheritance from her grandpa on her dad's side. It allowed them to live in luxury, but it didn't stop Ino's parents from creating a business for themselves. This flower shop was only a small-side business of theirs that had been passed down from generation to generation. Ino's parents worked as managers to some manufacturing company that Hinata forgot the name of.
But Hinata had met Ino in high school after Hinata had ran away from her household. Ino brought encouragement and fun back into Hinata's life. Hinata couldn't thank Ino enough, when Ino got her a job even if it was just attending flowers, cleaning and helping customers most of the day. It was peaceful working in a flower shop. There weren't many angry customers or any disturbances throughout the day and Hinata could relax.
After rearranging some pots and flowers, Hinata went to sweep the floor, picking up dirt and dust as she waited for customers to come by. It's another thing she liked about working here. The flower shop never really got busy. The busiest days only were Valentines and Mother's day. Most of the time people only came in to buy flowers for their significant other, or for their home improvements, or flowers for a grave.
It was always sad when Hinata engaged with those fellow customers. It was hard to comfort those who suffer from a loss. Sometimes there weren't any right words to say in the matter except for whispering condolences. Hinata sighed, wishing well wishes to those who have suffered a loss.
Time fled as Hinata kept herself occupied as she maintained the shop, drifting off into thought behind the counter. She had graduated high school a little while ago, about a year or so. She still smiled fondly at the memory. It didn't feel like it had been a whole year since then, from attending public school which was a sharp contrast to the private school she had been enrolled in before. Hinata grimaced at the thought.
It had been a good six years since she ran away from home. She missed aspects of her family… but some parts were…. Hinata didn't even let her mind get that far. She didn't want to become depressed all of a sudden. She had a new life. She was content with it. She didn't need to think about old stuff like that… but even so.
Hinata reflected on how even her new life has had some down turns as well. Her heart ached at the thought of her old flame from high school.
Ino walked in at that moment. "I'm back! Hey, why the long face, you look like you got hit by a truck?" Ino mentioned as she approached the front counter with a couple of plastic bags.
Hinata snapped out of it and smiled shyly at Ino. "Oh, it n-nothing!"
"Ah well, that's good. How was business while I was out?" Ino asked as she unloaded the plastic bags as she left to the back room.
"It was fine. Only a few customers dropped by and I received a phone call that requested an order of 4 dozen daisies by next Saturday from the Lories," Hinata reported, raising her voice so her friend could hear.
"Alrighty then, thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to set a shipment aside," Ino spoke as she exited the back room with her apron on. "Well it's almost 3 so you better get going, if you are going to go watch my baby brother," Ino cheerily stated.
Hinata nodded as she left to the back room taking off her apron. She smiled and waved to Ino goodbye as she left to head to Ino's house.
Hinata didn't mind babysitting Ino's little brother. He was a bit of a pain sometimes, but he mostly just had an attitude. He didn't like doing his homework or like being treated like a little kid. He liked to bring friends over and play videogames while eating chips all day. It was mostly Hinata's job to keep him on track which was to limit his goofing off time. He was supposed to come home and eat then do homework and maybe an hour of videogames but that was it. Ino's parents wanted to keep him studious and in-line while they were away.
Ino's little brother never liked listening to Ino, so Hinata was given the responsibility as Ino ran the shop. Ino's parents paid for Hinata's trouble though, so it wasn't that bad. Hinata would normally make him something to eat, then help him with his homework, and then she would just read in her free time or watch dancing videos on YouTube.
However, babysitting was a bit of a chore today for Hinata. Ino's brother was real reluctant to do anything and when he got started on homework, he complained every five seconds about the math problems. Hinata tried to be patient but even she was getting tired of trying to explain some concepts to him. He wasn't being very receptive to Hinata's explaining.
Hinata was happy when Ino's parents finally did come home that night. Ino's parents were always sweet to her. Hinata informed them of their son's trouble with his homework and was grateful when they relieved her of duty. Hinata left smiling at them saying goodbye as she headed out of their house.
Hinata walked silently home, contemplating on the day's events. Hinata wondered if her acceptance letter would come in the mail any time soon from AP College. She had sent her application a little over a month ago along with a video tape recording of her dancing.
Hinata was dying to go to art school. She wanted to become a dancer, but she was uncertain if she was good enough to be accepted and she was uncertain if she could do it. It scared Hinata to dance in front to people; it made her lose her balance half the time when under critiquing eyes.
With Hinata's mind elsewhere, she stepped out into the crosswalk without really looking only be scared half to death by the loud, raging sound of a horn and the squeal of breaks. Hinata jumped scared, looking like a deer caught in headlights as she looked at the car that almost hit her.
"WHAT THE HELL! Didn't anyone teach you to look both ways before crossing the street?!" a woman with pink hair yelled, that looked to be the same age as Hinata.
"I… I…. I" Hinata was at a loss for words.
"What the shit are you doing?! Hurry up and get off the road!" The pink haired woman shouted some more as she honked her horn twice.
Hinata jumped, her mind snapping back into focus as she squealed out a sorry loudly and ran cross the street.
"Stupid bitch," the pink haired woman muttered as she revved up her engine and turning after Hinata had passed and sped away.
Hinata's heart was pounding and she felt awkwardly embarrassed. She didn't really know why. She didn't like it when people were mad at her and Hinata quickened her step to get home to unwind from her near death experience.
As Hinata continued walking home, she looked for anything that could distract her mind from the previous events. She walked past many residential homes, some shopping centers, vendor stands, and a couple of gas stations.
This was her usual route home. There were some vendor stands that caught her attention with the material they sold, like food, shirts, accessories, newspapers. Hinata stopped by the newspaper stand, her eye catching the headliner about her father's company.
Hinata smiled half heartedly, at least they're doing good business. Glancing over at the magazines on the vendor cart, Hinata saw there was a lot of coverage on two men with dark hair and dark eyes. They looked like clean-cut men in business suits. They looked young though. Hinata glanced at the other magazines featuring women. Most magazines talk about fashion advice and make up tips.
Hinata was never the one to get dolled up or stay up-to-date with the latest trends, plus Hinata had Ino for that. Ino has always helped Hinata stay fashionable. Hinata left the newspaper stand, happy she was almost home, but she slowed down upon the site of the mailboxes outside her apartment complex and stopped right in front of them.
She was nervous to even open up the box. She knew she was acting silly, it could not even be in there. Or what if it is and she received a rejection letter instead? Her belly had been doing flips for a week every time she went out to check the mail, but she had to fight it. She has to know if she could follow through on her dreams. This was important to her.
Hinata took out her mail box key and opened her mailbox. She grabbed the mail, closing her mailbox and headed up the apartment building's stairs. She unlocked her apartment door and flipped on the inside lights. Hinata took a deep breath as she sorted through the mail in her kitchen and she froze at beholding the letter of fate.
This was it….She will either be attending college or she'll have to look for another road for her life to take. This will be either be her happy moment or her dream crushing moment. She unfolded the letter and began to read it.
It read:
Dear Hinata Hyuga
