Hey everyone. This little drabble was written for Marauder Map Madness on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I wrote for the prompts 197. Accidental Magic Reversal Squad Office: (Plot Point) accidental magic, and 198. Obliviator Headquarters: (character) Alice Longbottom. I hope you all enjoy Cookies and Magic.
The first time Alice preformed accidental magic she was four years old. Her mother, who was a stern woman, had insisted that Alice eat her lunch before she could have one of the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
"But mama," whined Alice as her mother walked her and her older brother over to the kitchen table, "I want a cookie."
"You'll get a cookie after you eat your lunch Alice," her mother told the the brown haired blue eyes girl. "You can't have cookies before your lunch or you won't want to eat any of the good food."
"But..."
"No buts, young lady," her mother picked her and put her on her chair. "You'll eat your peanut butter and jelly sandwich and then you have one of the cookies. Do you understand me, Alice?"
Pouting Alice nodded her head folding her arms across her chest. She could smell the delicious cookies from here and they were making her mouth water. She peeked over shoulder to see if her mother was watching. Sighing in defeat she realized that her mother always seemed like she had eyes in the back of her. Her mother had turned around as soon as Alice started to get out of her seat.
"Do you need something, Alice?" her mother asked her.
"No," Alice answered quietly in defeat. She was just about to pick up her peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich when something strange happened. One of the cookies had started floating above the plate. Alice had never seen her mother's cookies float like that before. It shocked the young girl even more when the cookie drifted over slowly and stopped in front of her plate.
Her mother walked over and hurriedly took the cookie from the air in front of her daughters plate. This was the first instance of magic that her daughter had ever shown before. She wasn't sure what to do but she decided to relent and give the girl the cookie.
"Thank you, Mummy," Alice told her taking a big bite out of the cookie with a smile. Alice never really understood why her mother gave her the cookie that day but it was one of the memories that stuck with her even after she had been tortured to insanity.
I hope you all enjoyed Cookies and Magic. I enjoyed exploring some of what I think Alice Longbottom's early life might of have been.
