Together and Apart
Sometimes it takes being apart, to bring you together.
Derek walked into a large white building, the heavy glass door had white writing on them reading RCN. Derek walked up to the desk in the middle of the room, a strict looking woman with her hair in a tight braid, and wearing a military uniform looked up at him.
"Do you have an appointment?"
"Yes, for three o'clock."
"Name?"
"Derek Venturi."
"Venturi, Venturi, ah here it is, the recruiting officer will be with you in a moment, could you please fill out one of each of those forms." Said the lady pointing to a rack of neatly organized multi-colored forms.
"Ok, um… could I borrow a pen."
The lady opened a draw and handed Derek a pen with the same letters as the door inscribed on in.
"Thank you."
Derek walked over to the rack of forms and pulled out on of each and grabbed a clipboard, then took a seat and begun filling out form after form.
Basic Information
RCN: Form 37782

The forms continued as such and it took Derek half an hour and a call to his mother Abby to ask his blood type to complete them all.
"Mr. Venturi."
Derek stood up and followed the man who had called his name.
"So son what made you decide to join the Royal Canadian Navy?"
"I need discipline sir then maybe I can get into a good collage."
"I see?"
The two came to an office and the man monitored for Derek to sit.
"So Mr. Venturi, it's my job to warn you that this is not going to be easy, if you get the ok on your medical you start training in three weeks, and with Canada having just joined the war on terror it is very likely that you will be stationed in Iraq with in a month."
"I'm aware of that I read the papers." Derek said proudly.
"Very well, have you informed your family of you decision."
"Not yet Sir I was going to when I was approved."
"Very well, lets see your paperwork."
Derek handed the man the small stack of paper.
"Alright then all seems in order." He said filping through the papers to make sure everything was filled out.
"Make an appointment to see the Medic on your way out and you should be approved within the next week."
"Thank you."
"Oh, wait, as I was, one more thing Mr. Venturi, I need your signature on this."
"OK, what is it."
"basically it says you will get a Will and have it verified by a lawyer."
"OK."
Derek signed the page and left the office, on his way out he got an appointment with the medic and left.
