I Look Up to You

Summary: Kenpachi respects his friends greatly.

The war was over and now the three missing captains to be replaced. After much debate; three were chose: Shuuhei Hisagi, Ikkaku Madarame, and Yumichika Ayasegawa.

Hisagi was taking in stride and grace and thanked the Captain-General.

"Thank you Soutaicho, I will lead the Ninth with honor," he said.

Ikkaku and Yumichika, however, were not as elegant.

"What?!" Ikkaku demanded in shock; forgetting his place. "I can't be a captain! I have to die under Zaraki-taicho! I mean-!"

"What he means to say is," Yumichika interrupted for them both. "We aren't the best for the position of captain. We still have much to learn. I don't even have bankai."

"Boys!" Kenpachi barked.

Instantly the two turned and gave their captain their full attention. Kenpachi glared.

"They don't just offer this position to anyone," he growled.

Kenpachi looked Ikkaku. "I know you have bankai," he looked at Yumichika, "And I know your kido-based shikai has the power of a bankai."

Yumichika and Ikkaku were surprised; they had worked so hard to keep their swords powers to themselves and yet their captain already knew.

Kenpachi looked at them both closely. "I'm the one who suggested you two for this position so don't go embarrassing me by saying on," he huffed.

Yumichika and Ikkaku looked at each other in surprise and suspicion.

"Why taicho?" Ikkaku asked curiously.

Kenpachi rolled his eyes. "If there is anyone in this world other than Yachiru that I respect it's you two," he said.

Their eyes widened. They'd always somewhat knew of the fact but they never thought he'd admit it aloud.

"I see you two as my friends and equals," he continued.

Kenpachi looked them both in the eyes. "It's time you two get the rank you deserve," he said seriously.

Ikkaku and Yumichika stared in shock before they squared themselves. They turned to the Captain-General and bowed.

"Thank you Soutaicho," they said in unison.

'Thank you Zaraki-taicho."

The three new captains were gone and announcing themselves to the other squads. The other captains had stayed behind to finalize everything. They had just finished the meeting.

Byakuya glanced at Kenpachi. "I think I can see now why those two and your men respect you so," he said lightly.

Kenpachi snorted. "Idiot," he muttered in reply.

Instantly everyone stopped and looked at Kenpachi in varying emotions. Was the Zaraki truly so cruel to say such things and not mean it? To insult them for believing in him?

Kenpachi smirked. "Those two, all of them, will be and are everything I am not."

Kenpachi smiled fondly. "I look up to them."

End.

Love it~!
