Falling

It had been early morning when she decided to step outside for some air and tea. The younger swords were on horse duty, the Shisengumi group were out on a mission while the rest of the group were either still sleeping or out in the fields. When she stepped outside, she saw a familiar snow-white presence already outside.

"Morning Tsurumaru-kun", she sat next to him.

"Oh, good morning, Master. You surprised me!" The man who was once known a long time ago as a sword dating from centuries, the Crane, had a surprisingly light hearted personality for someone who had a tragic background. He loved to play pranks which annoyed the others and her. However, he was one of her strongest soldiers…

And she was in love with him. For some reason, his personality had sunk into her like a stone and she found herself enjoying his company more and more. On this day, she actually had a job for him in mind: accompanying her to buy and trade provisions. Now I know how a mom feels with a family of sons. They eat constantly!

"Get ready. You're my assistant for today."

"Oh?" He smiled down at her as he jumped up immediately. "Well, I'm your sword then."

"Just behave yourself, okay? Let's not scare the village too much this time."

Tsurumaru behaved himself, much to her relief. Actually it turned out to be a nice day. While his master bartered and traded, he was thinking of a way to surprise her with the Ultimate Prank…one to gauge her reaction. After she finished, she went to look for him to help her carry things…only to find him facedown on the road.

"Lame", she ignored her heart beating fast. "I'm disappointed. You've pulled better." She started to walk away from she felt him holding her arm. "What are you doing, Tsurumaru-Kun?"

He pulled her into an embrace and kissed her deeply. Stunned, she just stared.

"I've been wanting to do that for a long time", he stroked her cheek gently. "Are you surprised?"

She nodded. "I..I"

"Be honest with me", he continued as he looked her square in the face. "I'm supposed to bring good luck to all of my owners but all I've done is bring bad luck with me. Does that bother you?" His golden eyes were sad. She hugged him tighter.

"You idiot", he could feel her tears hitting his haori. "You could never, ever bring bad luck to me!"

She kissed his lips gently, as she looked into his golden eyes, " Stop talking like you'll cause my death or something. I'm not going anywhere and neither are you."

This time their kiss was more passionate. "The only bad luck you could ever bring me, " she grinned from ear to ear. "Is if you die."

"Well, then, I promise I won't die", he had never been happier. "Falling in love with you is the best surprise I could ask for."

"Is it so bad?"

"Nah." He nuzzled her, "it's pretty nice to be honest."

Well, this turned more mushy than I expected. It was gonna be either Troll Crane or Fox grandpa first. Oh I wanna do one with Kogi too. Then Jiji.
