It was hard for Charlie to go through life knowing that the person he loved could never possibly love him back.
It was even harder for him to watch his younger brothers hopeless attempts to woo her. He could never be sure if she loved Ron back but he knew that Ron definately loved her.
It was one of those horrid times when both he and Hermione were at the Burrow at the same time. Although it was expected that she was to be at home with her parents for the Christmas Holiday, she wasn't. Charlie had not known that when she had gone to Australia to retrieve her parents and take off the memory charm she had found that they had died in a car accident.
Being away in Romania all the time made it hard for Charlie to hear about all that was going on at home.
As he was thinking about this he walked out the back door of the Burrow and could see her sitting on the tire swing that Arthur had made for his children years before insisting 'the muggles can do it so can I'. Which he was in fact right about seeing as it was still there.
No one else was out there so Charlie thought it a good time to talk to her.
He made his way across the yard and came to stand about a foot and a half away from her.
"Hermione?" He asked quietly.
Her head shot up from the book she was reading and her eyes caught his. "Hi Charlie." she answered her cheeks going a bit pink.
"Are you okay?" he asked taking a seat on the grass in front of her.
"Yeah, just a bit upset." she said closing the book.
"I can't even begin to imagine how you feel." he said giving her a sad smile.
"I don't feel horrible. I just feel upset because I feel like it's partially my fault. I moved them from here to Australia and obliviated their memories to protect them but yet it seems that death was inevitable." She sighed, closing her eyes.
"You did what you could to save them, Hermione." He patted her hand that was not holding the book. "I'm here if you ever need to talk."
Charlie went to stand up and walk away, but turned back around when he heard her mutter, "If only I could talk to you all the time."
She looked at him with wide eyes when she realized that he had heard her. Her cheeks turned red and she stood up to walk back to the house.
In a split second decision Charlie took two short steps toward her, grabbed her face and gave her a kiss. It lasted only seconds but both Hermione and Charlie were smiling like children on Christmas day.
A cough was heard from over near the house. Hermione and Charlie looked in that direction and saw the smirking faces of Fred, George, and Ginny. Ginny wasn't really smirking though, it was more of a smile.
"'Bout bloody time." Ginny yelled loud enough that Charlie and Hermione could hear from across the yard.
Charlie and Hermione looked back at each other still smiling.
'I guess it is about bloody time.' Charlie thought as he and Hermione walked back towards the house hand in hand.
I know it's not much but short is sweet right?
Anyway review and tell me what you think?
