Pemzin Week, Day 1: Rendezvous
There were never enough hours in the day to take care of everything that needed to be done. It was almost always hard to find the time to teach his children how to bend, and that was something that Tenzin regarded as a need rather than a want. Apart from that there were the demands on his time from trying to resurrect the Air Nomad culture from the ground up and serving as a key member of the city council. A personal life was more of a joke than anything attainable. No matter how free his day seemed in the morning, a million tiny details bubbled up to keep him working long past when he wanted to be in bed. Sometimes he fell asleep on Oogi's back as he flew home after a long day of work in the city.
However, this night was a rare quiet one. The children were being remarkably well-behaved, even Meelo, and the acolytes would be putting them into bed for the night by now. The air was starting to cool off, and Tenzin stopped to lean against a pillar and look across the waters of the bay. The sun had dipped below the horizon and the light was only just beginning to fade, but he seemed to have some free time on his hands. He was so tired that he was considering just going to bed, but he heard a familiar footfall behind him and turned. Pema gave him a gentle touch that was more than half a caress and a sideways look that made his heart pound in his chest. She moved away, off toward their shared quarters and he nearly tripped over his own feet turning to follow her. There were better things than sleep.
