Learning To Walk

Melody was a year and a half old now, but was talking like she was 2. The only thing she had left to learn was how to walk. For some strange reason the littlest Winchester couldn't seem to get the concept.

"Come on sweetie. Walk to Daddy." Sam urged his daughter one night as he kneeled on the other side of the room.

Melody leaned forward, pushed her self to her feet. After she steadying herself, she placed one foot in front of the other. But just like every other attempt she ended up on her ass. Melody crossed her legs and arms as her bottom lip started to quiver.

"Daddy, I can't do it!" Melody pouted, her little green eyes swelling with tears.

Sam lowered his head to hide his laugh. He walked over to his baby girl and lifted her head.

"Aw sweetie. It's okay." Sam reassured her, wiping away her tears.

"No, it's not!" Melody cried throwing her arms to her side.

"Yes it is. Now just watch how Daddy does it." Sam told her standing up straight. He then put one foot in front of the other except a bit dramatic. He looked like a rag doll trying to walk.

At this point Teresa had entered the living room but stopped when she saw Sam trying to show their daughter how to walk. She smiled as she leaned up against the doorframe.

"Daddy, I'm not going to walk wike dat. I will wook stupid!" Melody whined still pouting on the floor.

"I don't know about that sweetie. I think daddy looks pretty sexy." Teresa smirked pushing off the doorframe.

When Sam heard his wife's voice he stopped dead and stood up straight. "H-how long have you been watching?" He asked his face as red as the dress his daughter was wearing.

"Long enough." Teresa smiled leaning up on her toes and placing a kiss on his lips. After they parted, she got down on her knees and stretched out her arms.

"Now come on sweetie. You can do it. Mommy believes in you." Teresa sang gesturing with her hands.

"But mommy . . ." Melody tried to say but stopped when her mother held up a hand.

"Melody what's your last name?" Teresa asked softly.

"Win-wintester." Melody tried to say earning her a smile from her father.

"Exactly and Winchesters never give up. So your going to stand up, walk over and give mommy a hug." Teresa stated with a smile as Sam placed a gentle hand on her shoulder.

Melody looked at her parents and this look of determination came on to her face. She pushed herself up on to her feet again. Then started to put one foot in front of the other.

"You can do it sweetie. Come to mommy and daddy." Sam urged squatting down next to Teresa.

"I is a Wintester." Melody stated as she continued to walk towards her proud parents.

"Yes you are. And your almost there." Teresa laughed, keeping her arms outstretched.

Melody kept putting one foot in front of the other till she could wrap her little arms around her mother. Teresa scooped up her daughter and help her close.

"I did it! Daddy did you see!" Melody cried happily as she held on to her mother.

"Yes I sure did pumpkin. I'm so proud of you!" Sam smiled leaning forward to place a kiss on her forehead.

"Why don't we go out for ice cream to celebrate?" Teresa offered shifting Melody into her hip.

Melody and Sam looked at each other and smiled. "Yeah! Ice cream!" They both cheered making Teresa laugh.
