Lilina's Masquerader

This is the story of Lilina... the unloved princess.

Lilina was a lonely girl. Over the years, her friends always received gifts from their crushes, and yet, Lilina had nothing, for the boys feared her to be too alike to her outspoken father.

And that made her very upset.

Would there one day be a time where someone may perhaps receive a gift from her crush, Roy? The so-called 'oblivious prince of Pherae'?

Well, one day, in her tenth year of life, it did happen. On the day unofficially called... Rose Day.

Rose day was a day where men gave roses to women. Or more specifically, boys to girls.

And as usual, Lilina never got a rose... from anyone she knew of in Ostia.

In fact, it came from a mysterious masked boy with no distinguishable characteristics, other than the faint smell of wine.

"Good evening! I have heard of your loneliness, and I have come to wash it away!" the boy explained to her.

And he handed her a single red rose, giving reason for Lilina to smile... before she was kissed by the enigmatic stranger.

Lilina had never been given a gift before, let alone a kiss.

And that made her very happy.

So happy, in fact, that she went with all her speed to tell the news to her father, the man she blamed for her loneliness.

"Father," Lilina had happily cried out to him, "I got a rose from a strange masked man!"

Imagine her surprise and disappointment when she heard her father's next words:

"Oh, him? One of the court jesters wanted to play a joke, so he poured a vat full of wine in a random person's cup from one of the guest rooms. Prince Roy is the only one who owns a mask like that," he explained.

And that made her very disappointed.

"Whoa!" Lilina shrieked, suddenly sitting up in her bed. She had had a weird dream, and before she could dwell on it, her husband Roy woke up beside her, rubbing his head in pain.

"That's the last time I stop watching my drink at a masquerade party," he groaned, removing his mask from his face. "I don't remember anything that happened."

Forgetting her dream for the moment, Lilina snuggled closer to Roy before they shared a mutual kiss with each other.

Perhaps she would tell him about it in the morning, when he was more coherent.

THE END

Author's Notes

This story is for Fireminer! I had received a PM asking to write this huge elaborate story involving a love pentagon... and then I had to embarrassingly (for myself) decline, because I only accept pairing requests. However, this was not made clear anywhere specifically, so that's technically my fault. So to make it up, I asked for an alternate idea to be suggested, and I promised to write it whenever I wrote my next request. I got a bunch of specific details for what should be in the story, and I covered pretty much everything.

This took a surprisingly long time to figure out. The first part was made to be like a fairy tale, (even if the ending of the dream was purposely ridiculous) and then the last part to be reality. It's a different writing style than I'm used to, and I hope it's satisfactory for everyone. It's strange to me, and I'm not sure if I'll try it out again, but it's always fun trying new things.

Don't forget to vote on my new poll about what sequel I should write! Check it out! You can vote for up to five of the six choices!

I mentioned a schedule change in the future, but it's not taking effect... yet. Wait until AGOH to find out!
