Alfred watched Alice with his eyes glazed over with despair as he saw her grab the Frenchie's arm with a smile. Why, he thought, why did their time of happiness and bliss end? Why did she leave him so...empty? Alfred was a little miffed (or enraged, which ever is preferred) that she had moved on so quickly. Was he just not good enough?
He thought back to that time, that time where she was still his and he was still her's. They had, admittedly, fought a lot, but they were so happy together. Many of their friends were delighted and even slightly jealous of their relationship. But...one day Alice just broke. She was depressed, more depressed then she had ever been. She questioned everything, her life choices, her friendships, even her boyfriend.
This did not sit well with Alfred, and when he had brought it up, they had argued over it. This caused a spark in Alice, turning her depression in to anger problems. She started to complain over nothing and yell at Alfred no reason. They started to argue more.
Over and over again, they would continue to fight about little things, until it just became to much to handle. Alfred and Alice had broken up after Alfred had yelled something he had immediately regretted. He could still picture her hurt face when he blurted out, "Well at least I won't end up alone because I had pushed everyone away, even your brothers don't want to talk to you anymore!" That exclaimation had crossed the line, and the relationship's cracks split.
Now, Alfred thought sadly, she has someone new. He probably treated her better too.
But what Alfred didn't see, was the sadness behind Alice's smile and the ever present depression in her eyes.
