"I just wish that we had more time," were the last words Agent 99 thought she would ever hear Max say. The train was speeding past them and she knew the impact would pull him along to his death. She looked into his bright blue eyes and saw that he had meant what he said. His eyes told her how he truly felt for her and that he knew she would miss him when he was gone.
The train crashed and burned and 99 knew that he must have been dragged into the inferno. "I wish we could have had more time too," she whispered to the wind. A few tears fell from her face.
She had her back to the wreck so she didn't see him come up behind her. When she finally turned around to walk back to the Chief's helicopter, knowing the mission still needed to be carried out he said, "I'm glad to hear that."
To say the least, 99 was shocked to hear his voice. He had survived and he had heard what she had said!
"But how--?" she began.
His answer, "Missed it by that much."
He grabbed her face and pulled her in for a deep kiss. She was so glad to know that he was alive and she threw caution to the wind and ran her tongue over his warm lips, to see what he would make of it. He complied, loving the feel of her being so close to him. It meant that she felt something for him like he felt something for her. They looked into each other's eyes and knew that they would have plenty of time later to express their feelings, but now they needed to go save the President. For one last moment they clung to each other and then they ran off to stop the last notes of "Ode to Joy" from setting off the bomb.
Of course they succeeded, and they decided to try dating for awhile; they also bought that cute puppy Max had seen in the shop window by where they first met. They named him Fang even though he was bigger than a few pounds.
Back at headquarters, 99 leaned over to try to give him a kiss on the lips. "Come on, no one knows we're dating yet," said Max protesting.
"We know," said the Chief walking past them. 99 blushed slightly and Max looked away sheepishly.
"Well, one on the cheek," said Max giving in.
"I'm glad that we got more time for this," was what Max was thinking when he felt her soft lips press against his cheek.
"Me too," said 99, leaving Max speechless.
