Prologue
(The First Wish)
Disclaimer: I do not own Labyrinth or any other character from that splendid movie. If I did, then the ending would have been much different. You will encounter a few characters, such as one in this prologue, that I have created. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Please keep in mind that this short chapter is merely a prologue. The true story will start from this point on, and I promise the chapters will be longer.
Chipped red nails trailed down the rough bark of an aged oak, and in their wake was a trail of blood. The owner of the hand ignored this as she began to sing in a gentle alto. "Devil, Devil, on the outside. Please tell me, Devil, is this where you hide?" She raised her voice as she continued. "Your wings have been ripped, your talons are torn. Is this where you cry? Does your soul still mourn?"
She sat unceremoniously on an exposed root as she ceased her song. Her blind eyes stared ahead at the nothingness in front of her while her knotted white hair fell across her face. "Where are you, Devil?"
There was no reply, at least not as most people would understand them. Witches, however, had a way of understanding things even when no words had been exchanged. Her answer came in the form of a feather that landed upon her lap. Her fingers, still stained crimson from their untended wounds, reached down to retrieve the plume. She twirled it between her fingers and hummed as she brought it to her face. The enchanted woman inhaled deeply, and as she did the feather ceased to exist. In its place she had a head full of new memories and desires that were not her own. These could only belong to one being. Oh yes, she knew this devil. She closed her eyes as a smile spread across her face. "Are you certain this is what you truly wish for, King Jareth?"
The only response she received was the sound of wings taking flight from the tree above her. It was enough. She understood what this meant all too well. "As you wish, your majesty."
That's all for tonight my fellow Labyrinth fiends. I should have the first proper chapter posted within the week. Until then be sure not to get lost in an oubliette.
