Chapter 1

Big Shocks and Strange Feelings

James Potter was in his third year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was popular with everyone, had three best friends, all of whom had a great sense of mischief, and was already worshipped by girls who craved his attention because of his charming smile, wit and his abilities at Quidich.

Lily Evans, on the other hand, went to a normal muggle secondary school and on the 4th September, while students at Hogwarts had been in lessons for three days already, was on the last day of her holidays. She was walking with her parents through the countryside when she caught her first glimpse of Hogwarts.

"Mum," she asked "can we go and explore that castle on the way back?"

"What do mean dear? Where's the castle?" replied her mother, Rose Evans.

"It's right there," stated Lily, pointing at the school and looking strangely at her mum. "You can't exactly miss it, it's huge!"

"Oh, that, Lily it's just a load of old ruins! Why would you want to look around that?"

Lily cast her mother a bemused look. She couldn't understand how her mum couldn't see the magnificent castle in front of them.

"No it's not, it's a castle I can see it!" She yelled, starting to run towards the school

"Lily!" called her mother, looking at her husband who simply gave a worried shrug.

Lily burst through the main doors of Hogwarts, into the Entrance Hall and looked around. What she saw made her feel dizzy. There were candles floating around above her head (and they were floating - not just hanging on strings - actually floating!). Children around her own age were wearing strange outfits and holding sticks. Some were even pointing them at each other or objects and muttering strange incantations. Lily stared for a few more seconds before collapsing in a heap on the floor - she'd fainted.

James saw the redheaded girl from a distance, and he rushed over to help her. He looked at the pretty face framed by her long, curly, scarlet locks and a strange feeling came over him. He didn't know what it was. He just knew he had to protect and help this girl. He picked her up and saw her mobile fall out of her pocket.

"Sirius!" he called to a handsome boy with shaggy black hair who looked over, apologised to the group of giggling girls he had been surrounded by, all trying far to hard to be his next girlfriend, and bounded over to James.

"What's up mate?" He asked "and who's she?"

"I don't exactly know who she is," James replied "but I think she's a muggle because she's got one of those weird things that they use to write to each other instead of quills." He kicked the phone towards Sirius who picked it up and looked at it like it was something from another planet.

"How do you know what this thing is?" he asked indicating to the mobile.

"That doesn't matter. Just take it to Dumbledore and explain that we've got a muggle girl who seems to be able to see Hogwarts and everything inside it. Ok?" grinned James "I'm going to take her to the hospital wing." Sirius mock saluted his friend and marched off towards the heads office.

After James had told Madam Carter about the situation the nurse decided it would be best to leave her asleep but stable until Dumbledore had spoken to her parents (who had been gently sedated sent with Sirius to have a cup of coffee with the Professor) and decided what to do.
