"Annie, stop it! Sweetie! That tickles!"
I can't stop giggling as my eight-year-old tickles me to death on the floor of her room. Eugene's off at some Prince's Meeting(and yes, I am scared for the kingdom.) and...I haven't seen my parents lately. Come to think of it, I haven't seen them all day. I straighten up and face my little red.
"Annie, you haven't seen Gramma or Papa, have you?" I ask with a dazed voice. Annie nods her head confusedly, and I get up.
"I enjoyed playing with you sweetheart, but it's time for work. How about you help me find Gramma and Papa, and you can play with them. Okay?" I reach out my hand to grasp Annie's tiny hand. We slowly amble out of the room and down the halls. We're almost at the dining hall when I see the Royal Messenger and sometimes-doctor, Reginald Vanhussen, running down the halls. He sees me and stumbles up.
"Oh my goodness, Princess! I've been looking for you. You'd better come quick. It's...it's your father." the darkness in his eyes says something's very wrong. I bend down to Annie and smile.
"Don't you worry, sweetheart. Daddy's just tired, okay? Go play with your dolls now, we'll call you up for play later." Annie nods and runs off, and I face Reginald.
"Reg, what's wrong." I say, almost out of breath for some reason. He hesitates, fumbling with his old brown hat.
"The king...well...go see it for yourself."
My heart nearly explodes during the run to my parents' chamber. I gently push open the door to find something that makes my blood run absolute cold, and my fastly beating heart stop short.
My father's on the bed, and he's deathly pale.
A/N Dun dun DUN. Big cliffhanger for the first chapter. Oh crap, it's gonna be short chapters again. Eh, oh well. Hope you guys like it!
