Title: A Different Man
Disclaimer: I do not own Rookie Blue or any of its characters.

Before he was good. He may not have played strictly by the books but he got things done. But now, now he is the best. His cases always get closed. He is the first the arrive and the last to leave. The new rookies always look at in fear and awe wondering what could possibly motivate this man. They admire him and strive to one day be the protector that this man has become. I look at him and I wonder what could possibly motivate this man. I wonder sometimes how he walks into this precinct each day without dying a little bit on the inside. He isn't the same man I once new. The man I knew was full of life. He was always there to make a comment or to play a game of poker. But now his life revolves around those two words of "serve and protect." Those words dictate every action in life that he takes.

I still remember the day we lost him. It started out as any other, but then we got the call. Officer down they said and no more information was given. As the day progressed and more information was released, I knew that that day could only get worse. I still remember the look in his eyes when they told him. I watched as his world crumbled and the one thing in his life that he truly loved was taken away. On that day I lost my best friend but he lost so much more. He lost the center of his world. The day Andy McNally died was the day we lost Sam Swarek.
