AN: I realized I've never really written much Mir/San fanfiction despite them being of my favourite pairings. Ergo, I sat down and forced myself to type... I'm fairly happy with the result.

Silent Night
by Lyllithe
- - -
The night is completely still, in utter contrast with his racing heart. His world has been turned on its side, hanging on the edge, hanging by a thread. He grips his right hand – his traitorous, despicable, cursed right hand – and hopes that his heart will not explode in a tidal wave of emotion; that his world will not fall into oblivion.
During the day, he puts on a pleasant smile. But in the night, in the silent night, his fears and worries, anxieties and torn dreams come creeping onto him and rooting themselves into his soul. Still, his face is deceitfully calm, his tendencies ironically playful and light hearted. But inside, the façade gives way to turmoil; his mind is as turbulent as the whirling air rip of his hand.
And then there is her, the girl with the soulful brown eyes that see through his flawless mask as though it weren't even there. How is it that you see me, his inner self screams silently, and wonders how one girl fills up the void in his heart more than the whole world could ever fill the void in his hand. His outer self, a sly con artist of a monk, just smiles.
The night is still silent; his world still hanging on the edge. His emotions are still creeping up on him, only tonight they bring the image of brown eyes with them. His heart gives a shudder and his world shatters, but he finds that he doesn't mind so much, and smiles.
