The clock ticked loud and slow as the sound of quills scratching against parchment filled the air. The seventh year students sat in the great hall finishing off their last end of year exam before being released into the big wide world.

Lily was lost in utter concentration as she stared down at her paper, checking her work for mistakes. Her train of thought was broken by something tapping on the back of her head. Without attracting attention from the examiners she retrieved the offending object. A small charmed paper airplane. Discreetly she opened it to read it's message. She was angry, who would disturb her during a test, especially one as important as this. One look at the distinct scrawl told her who it was from- James. Of course it would be from him. She couldn't be too mad, everything he did made her smile. She read the very rushed and messy writing trying to decipher what it said.

My darling Lily,

I have never written a poem in my life but I wanted something special to express what I wanted to say so Mooney helped me write this for you.

Ode to Lily

My whole life has felt like an unanswered question.

Days upon days strung together, waiting for something to happen,

And then I found you and made a true connection.

Our life together is what gives

my life true meaning.

I don't want to lose this.

I've been waiting for you my whole life.

Marry me?

Please say "Yes" and be my wife.

Forever yours James

Lily looked up from the parchment and started straight ahead to where Professors Dumbledore and McGonagall stood watching over the hall. A single tear ran down her cheek as a smile slowly crept upon her face. She turned to look at James quickly, she did not need to grab his attention, his eyes had not left her since before she had retrieved his note. Without a second thought, she replied.

"Yes" she mouthed before turning back to face the front of the hall again, not wanting to be caught.
