One Life

The old man with greying hairs stepped out of the old blue box.

He was finally there. Parallel Earth. He could see Rose again, just one last time, just to make sure she was happy.

The Doctor was alone again. It was just him and his box. Perhaps seeing a familiar face again would give him closure.

In the process of finally finding his home planet, he had lost Clara. His impossible girl was dead.

However, his race lived. The Time Lords survived, victorious. Meaning it was possible to visit parallel worlds.

So the Doctor came here. To this parallel Earth.

"Just one look," He told himself. He wouldn't get involved.

Approaching the beach of Bad Wolf Bay, the Doctor knew someone would be there, waiting.

But what he wasn't expecting it to be was himself. Alone. No blonde hair in sight.

The problem was, his duplicate looked the same as before, not even a day older.

"Where is she?" The old Doctor asked quietly.

His duplicate looked down.

"She's gone..." He whispered.

"W-What do you mean 'gone'?"

"You were wrong, Doctor. You told me I was human, that I would age. You were so, so wrong. Because I can't age. But she did. It's been years since she died, and I still wish there was something I could've done."

The Doctor stepped forward, closer to his tenth self's duplicate.

"Rose... Rose is dead," He repeated shakily.

The duplicate nodded. "Gone like the wind. She was happy, in the end. Said she was glad she at least got to spend her life with me."

"I-I... I'm so sorry," The Doctor began to retreat slowly back to the TARDIS.

"Wait," The duplicate called softly. "Let me come with you. There is nothing here for me now. No children, nobody. Please."

The Doctor nodded slowly.

"Okay," He whispered.
