Title: Listen to Your Heart

Author: Mrs. Carolyn Mitchell

A/N: I was challenged by my lovely sister KibaTemluvr99 to do a ficlet based on the prompt she gave me of "Why don't you listen to your heart and go out with me?" and it had to be less than 500 words.

Doctor Carolyn Lam moved the end of the stethoscope around on Colonel Cameron Mitchell's chest. "Your heart is racing."

"Happens when I'm around pretty doctors like you," he said, flashing her a cheesy grin.

She held back a laugh. "I've heard that one before." She took the stethoscope earpieces out of her ears and set it down on the bed beside Cam. "Alright, you're all set."

"Not quite," he said. She furrowed her eyebrows at him. "I still haven't asked you to dinner yet."

"Don't waste your time, Colonel," Carolyn replied. "I don't date colleagues, much less my patients."

"C'mon, Doc," he whined. "It'll be fun!"

"You're starting to sound like Vala," Carolyn retorted, folding her arms in front of her chest.

He took the stethoscope off of the bed and handed it to her. "Why don't you listen to your heart and go out with me?"

She smiled. "Now that one was pretty clever, I'll give you that."

"So whadda ya say?" Cam asked. "I've got reservations for a pretty nice restaurant that I would hate to have go to waste…" At her hesitant look, he added, "I hear they have the best red velvet cake—"

"Alright, Colonel," she said, resisting the urge to smile at the thought of going out with Cameron Mitchell. "You've got yourself a date."

He smiled. "Great! I'll pick you up at six."

As he walked out of the infirmary, she said softly to herself, "I'll be waiting."
