And it All Went Downhill from There
Twilight, how I've missed you.
The boys are twelve or thirteen in this, just home from school.
Disclaimer: Stephenie is far too publicised to be me.
With a grunt, Jacob hit the ground hard.
"Um, hello?" Embry, snickering, turned his bike around and raised his eyebrows enquiringly. Jacob got up heavily and began to make his way toward his friend. "What the hell is wrong with you?"
"Just wanted to tell you I was here," Embry explained innocently. "I mean, you said to hit you up if I needed anything, so – "
"Yeah, I didn't mean literally," Jacob snarled, shoving Embry off his bike. Embry laughed, flailing his legs so they connected with Jacob's head.
Quil appeared around the corner, panting, his backpack dangling from one shoulder. "Aw, did I miss it?" he wailed. "I wanted to hit Jake!"
"That's what happens when you run and I actually do something smart," Embry jibed oh-so-cleverly. "Come on, let's go. Bring your backpack."
"Where are we going?" Jacob got his bag out of the truck; his ride home from school was faster than either of theirs.
"I need your help," Embry stated. "That English test is not going to go well for me."
"All right, then, let's study," Quil moaned, resigned to another boring day after school. The three trudged back to the garage, preparing their souls for what was bound to be a grueling afternoon.
Or at least it would have been, had not Jake picked up a socket wrench and started toying with it on page three of the book, leading to them all becoming distracted and playing with the bikes in the corner of the garage, the end result being some major (so they thought) improvements in the steering.
They took the bikes up to the top of the highest hill in La Push, neglecting helmets or safety gear of any sort. A loud screech could be heard five minutes later, followed succinctly by a crash and squawking birds dislodged from their favourite tree.
And that was the first time Jacob Black was sent to both the emergency room and his bedroom within half an hour.
And that is why we always wear a helmet, kiddies.
