"C'mon Eliot! Smile a little!"
They were giving presents to the kids, and Eliot was Santa, but he wasn't in the spirit. He was angry, like always, but Parker knew that he acted different around children, more soft. But not today.
"Parker, there are a lot of kids sitting in my lap talking about things I have never heard before!"
"But that is the magic! The kids dream about their presents. Everything is so magical!"
She was smiling brightly, and Eliot couldn't stop wondering.
"They dream or you dream?"
"I'm old enough…Santa won't bring me presents anymore…"
Eliot could see the deception all over her face. She was such a kid…did she really believe in Santa? But that was Parker, right? She was supposed to be different…actually she made the team not normal at all.
"What did you used to ask to Santa?"
"I never asked, Parker. Santa doesn't exist!"
"Of course he does! He lives in the North Pole!"
"Really? Did he ever give you something?"
"Just once…the other years I had to steal. Guess he didn't think I was a good girl after all…."
Eliot was still looking at Parker. She was sad now. He was about to say something when a kid jumped into his lap. "Damn", he thought. "Okay, I will talk to her later." She was so innocent, just like a kid. He didn't like to see her sad.
Eliot hasn't got time to think about Parker until the job was finished. He went home, took a shower and drove to her house. He remembered the address of the warehouse when they had to rescue her. He hoped she was still there, that she hasn't moved to another of her warehouses.
He entered the code he remembered, Sophie's name. Good, she didn't change that. He opened the door and stepped inside, but suddenly someone hit the back of his head with a pipe.
"Oh god. Sorry Eliot."
"What the hell, Parker! Why did you do that?"
"Could be someone else…it's late! What are you doing here?"
Only then she saw a package on the floor near Eliot. It was red and green, just like the colors of Christmas. Eliot picked up the package and gave to her.
"For me? Yay!"
With a quick movement, she opened the package and found equipment she used to jump off buildings, but it was new, modern. She was so happy that eliot couldn't help smiling.
"A new kit? This kind of rope just got on the market! I was about to stole it!"
Eliot was laughing now. She said that like when you say to your mother that you are going to eat ice cream.
"I'm happy that you liked it, darlin'. But now I have to go."
He was walking in the direction of the door when he turned around with a smile on his face.
"Merry Christmas, Parker."
He continued walking towards the door. Parker's smile got bigger, A present, yay! People never gave her presents. She was used to steal what she wanted, but it was different this time. She had a family now and now she had a present. He gave her a present. She felt she belonged there, finally.
"Thanks Santa!"
Eliot made a bye gesture with his hand as he reached the door.
She would test the equipment tomorrow. All she wanted to do was lie in her bed and have good dreams about her friends. When Eliot closed the door, she turned off the light, jumped on the bed and started to dream.
