Prologue - It Starts With A Prayer

In an upstairs bedroom of a small house on the outskirts of Veilstone City, a five year old little girl kneels at her bedside and prays.

Dear God,

My name is Krystal. I am five years old, my hair is cyan, and my eyes are crystalin. That's why my mother named me Krystal, although I guess you already know all this stuff, being that your God and everything.

I don't really talk to you much, or at all, actually. If I'm being honest, I'm not sure whether or not you really exist. But whether you're real or not, I need some help. Or at least someone to talk to.

You see, I don't have any friends... Most of the other kids don't even notice me. There are only two other kids that do - Lavernius, who is my age, and his older brother, Maurice. Maurice is pretty nice, but he's actually pretty old. He's been a Pokemon Trainer for quite a few years now, and he's not home much. I used to like to walk to his house when he was home, but every time I go over there, Lavernius is mean to me. He picks on me, and it makes me sad.

Lately I've had what my mother refers to as "anxiety attacks." It's really scary. I lose the ability to think and end up crying and trembling on the floor. My mother is really concerned. It's especially hard for her to watch me because I don't have a dad to help. I don't know why this is happening to me. I feel like anything I do could set off another attack.

My mother is sending me to see a psychologist tomorrow afternoon. We're hoping she'll be able to stop the attacks and make me less afraid. I'm nervous to meet her. What if she's really mean? What if I have lots of attacks in her office? What if she can't help me?

This is why I'm praying for the first time. I need some kind of help, some kind of guidance. Please, whether you're real or not, send me something. Something to help me, something to care for. Something to make me feel ok. Some kind of comfort. Anything will do. Please?

Amen

She finished her prayer and went to sleep, although her mind was not yet at ease. The next morning as she was playing in some nearby caves, she stumbled upon a litter of eight eevees. They were very young, only recently hatched.

Now, this wasn't Krystal's first encounter with pokemon. She'd met other people's pokemon before, but this was different. It was her first time getting so close to wild pokemon. They were sweet and friendly, and she played with them the whole morning until she had to leave for her appointment.

And she went back to the cave everyday afterward to play with her new friends. She finally had something to get her excited. When she was with the eevees, she didn't feel afraid. She was completely at ease. It was then that she decided she wanted to devote her life to helping pokemon, whatever it takes.

End of Prologue

A/N: Finally finished the prologue. Hope to write the first chapter soon. I could use some help finding a name for Krystal's psychologist, though.

If you didn't know, this is actually rewrite of a story that I used to have up quite a few years ago. I only had like three chapters up at the time, but took it down for reasons I don't remember. Now I'm redoing it, and I can tell you, this version is way more serious. In the original version, Krystal was just simply shy, and her home life wasn't mentioned at all. This is going to be way more fun ;) You can leave a review if you're up for it :)
