50 Shades of Film Noire

"Oh, Terry, you're hurt!" sighed Edie, as Terry walked up to her after the confrontation at the wharf with Johnny Friendly.

"I could've been a contender, Edie. I could've been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am."

"But you are a somebody, Terry, you're my somebody."

"But no one on the waterfront cares about me now, they only cared back when I was a fighter, when I had a chance but Friendly knocked me down."

"Well," said Edie, with a small smile, "let's see if we can get you up!"

"No, he can walk by himself!" Father Barry swiftly interjects. He wasn't going to let the innocent Edie, the only one left in his parish that was still saveable, damn herself by not waiting until marriage.

After all, she's a good catholic school girl, with morals and a brighter future. He wasn't going to allow the kind-hearted but misguided Terry 'penetrate her glove', as they would've said outside the church, amongst the weary fog.

But Edie seemed to have other ideas, 'accidently' dropping her glove for a second time, right in front of Terry.

Perhaps she's not exactly the pure, innocent angel Father Barry perceived her to be. Perhaps she is becoming a young woman, flirting with the strong, young men is to be expected. 'But no, not until marriage,' Father Barry tried to keep telling himself.

And yet the rather frustrated priest couldn't help but imagine a not-so-innocent Edie, doing some not-so-innocent things, in the church. After all, if saints didn't "hide in a church", perhaps that's because people got up to not-so-holy things in there.

So he let the thoughts penetrate deeper and deeper into his mind, until Terry started to walk, all by himself.

"Hey Edie," said Father Barry, "after we get this one home and cleaned up, do you mind coming with me to the church to... uh... help me prepare the communion for tomorrow? I have a feeling there will be a few people who need to absolve their sins."

"Oh no, I'll come now. Terry, do you think you can make it back to your place by yourself? I need to help Father Barry set up the church for the communion tomorrow. Very important business of course." Edie states as Terry begins to stagger along. Father Barry started walking off with Edie trotting along behind him, neither of them looking back as Terry collapsed on the ground from a combination of his injuries and heartbreak.

"Edie, wait. Edie!" Yells Terry as he slips into unconsciousness.
