?'s POV

I used to be a Dragon Master.

I, theoretically, still am.

I fought with the other heroes and sealed the Black Mage. Even if it wasn't me that sealed him in the end, it was me that set up the unawakened seals and bid Luminous to unlock them. So if I did all of that, why am I in this kid's body?

He isn't anything more than a mere farmer's child. But judging from that symbol on his hand, I presume that he's meant to be my successor. I float alongside him every day, watching him do his usual chores - bringing his father his food, scaring foxes... I felt like Maha did when he floated alongside Aran. I couldn't actually see the Pole-Arm spirit, but I could feel his presence. Learning magic did that to you - allowing you to feel the presence of people that aren't physically there.

I worry for this child. He had never ventured out of that farm of his, never met with danger, never collided with any mythical beings. He's probably too naïve for his own good. I just hope that the dragon he's bonded to can send him a proper signal soon.

Evan's POV

This mark on my hand... what is this meant to mean? It looks like one of the symbols on one of the heroes in the tales Ma used to tell me and Utah.

That hero had a dragon with him too.

...Wait.

It can't be. It can't mean that I'm going to meet a dragon... right?

I mean, I'm just a child with no knowledge of the world. Dragons only live in Leafre, anyway. How exactly am I going to meet one? Will I travel to Leafre or will it travel to me? Am I in danger?

That kid sure is inquisitive. It's a good beginning for a magician. I can feel that dragon's energy. What did Afrien call it again? Mir? ...I honestly can't remember. It's been centuries since I last saw my soul-bound partner. Maybe with this kid I can see him again. No matter. The magic's coming from a forest close-by, near the farm, just in the boundaries.

This sensing thing is something that you get after being with a dragon for so long. But I have to admit, being away from my partner is making my spell-casting skills rusty. If this goes on any longer I'll forget all of them. I can only remember one, now. Any longer and I won't have any spells left to teach him. He has to find that dragon quickly, or I'll have to take matters into my own hands.

Evan's POV

Pa told me that the piglet was probably nearby a really dense forest. He was right. I raced towards the piglet, not seeing the ditch in front of me, and tripped on a tree root before falling downwards.

Mist enveloped my vision as I struggled to stand up.

Where am I...?

I'm probably underground, but I can't possibly be. All around me are trees. Trees that go on for probably miles. Another tendril of fog reached out with long, wet fingers, obscuring my vision and halting my breathing for a short while.

I looked upwards, noting a dim glow. I struggled towards it, and I noted it as a tall pillar with some sort of symbol... wait. I looked down at my hand and back at the pillar. The two symbols were exactly the same. I looked further ahead.

The lights grew dimmer as they spiraled further into the distance, but I could see they led as a trail. I decided to follow it. Besides, I already fallen. What harm can doing this do?

Then I noticed the egg. I reached out to touch it's deceptively smooth-looking blue surface, only for my fingers to touch something like scales. The mark on my hand flashed brightly.

I smiled as he touched the egg before taking it into his small hand. Mercedes' barrier must have weakened, allowing him to enter this forest. He wouldn't have been able to see or even enter the pit otherwise.

His cyan eyes glowed with curiosity as I looked down at him. I smiled dangerously.

The Black Magician should watch out.

The Dragon Master of centuries before will rise again, in a new body.

The Dragon Master Freud...

...is back.
