Childish Fears
Gabrielle shivered, Xena was going into town for supplies, leaving her alone tonight, a fact she hated was being alone.
All of her life, she experienced the classic signs of childhood phobias like fear of the dark, hallucinations of a "sandman" and other creatures, hallucinations that seemed all too real to the woman now, "Please don't leave me." she begged her companion, the mighty Xena.
"I told you, you'll be fine, I can't risk both of us being captured if something goes wrong, I'm sorry." the dark-haired woman then mounted her horse and rode into the horizon, the town was miles ahead.
As day gave way to night, Gabrielle's pulse dropped drastically and her muscles tightened beyond her control.
"Come on Gabrielle, you can get through this, just stay calm and think of something else." she whispered to herself, trying to calm her ice-cold nerves.
Xena had been gone for three hours and Gabrielle was slowly dying inside from the anxiety that consumed her, deep down she knew that there was nothing to be afraid of, if only she could tame her imagination.
"There is no such things as ghosts or anything, stop worrying." she repeated over and over but it did no good, Gabrielle was now petrified.
At the sound of every noise, at every sight movement even her own caused Gabrielle to shudder and gradually raised her pulse to dangerous rates.
Finally Xena was returning, and she waved to Gabrielle, who only tensed further, in this light, Xena looked terrifying, like someone who wanted to cause the bard harm, as Xena drew closer, the faster Gabrielle's heart beat, and the harder her heart worked to supply her body with blood.
Eventually, the terror became too much for Gabrielle, and she fell over, dead from severe trauma, just as she had feared, her childish fears laid her to rest.
