Disclaimer: Nobody's and nothing is mine, Joss was just evil and didn't give me my Spike & Buffy shippy scene so I went and made my own!! I do that. Sorry! Please don't sue! I don't own anything you'd want!! *S*
"Come on now luv, it can't be that bad." Spike prodded after the silence between them seemed interminable. Buffy sniffed loudly but didn't reply. "Is it something to do with Captain Commando? Red? The whelp?" Buffy shook her head each time but still refused to look at him. "Is it Giles?" He tried again.
"What are you bothering to find out Spike?" She snapped. "You don't care and if you came back because you thought I was still in the mood to be taunted then I suggest leaving. Now. Before I stake you." She warned but the tears in her voice belied her threat.
"Is it your mum?" Spike continued as if she'd never spoken. "It is your mum." He decided when she gave no response. "What's wrong wit 'er?" He queried.
Buffy didn't answer but her lower lip trembled.
"Bloody hell Slayer, I'm tryin' to help here! The least you could do is tell me the problem!" he exclaimed.
"She has to go into the hospital." Buffy began haltingly. "They want to take a CAT scan and keep her overnight for observation. She says they think it's probably nothing, but what if it's not nothing? What if it's something? What if she dies Spike?" The slayer asked looking up at him, her big doe eyes bright with fear and unshed tears. "I…I don't think I could take it if she died Spike." Her voice cracked and the wall holding back her tears did as well, she buried her face in her hands and wept.
Spike hesitated a few seconds before pulling the sobbing girl into his arms. "There, there now ducks," he crooned, stroking the blonde locks splayed out across his chest as her tears quickly soaked the front of his black T-shirt. "I'm sure your mum'll be fine. She's almost as plucky as you are and if there are docs out there who can put chips in unsuspecting vamps' heads and fix your loverboy's too fast heart then they can definitely fix your mum." He reassured, running one hand soothingly up and down her back.
Buffy sniffed and looked up from his chest. "You really think so?" She asked, her hazel eyes red and swollen from crying.
"Almost positive luv." And then he did something that surprised them both, he leant over and kissed her gently on the forehead, gathering her into his arms once more and rocked her gently, murmuring "it'll all be okay" and making shushing noises. And she did something even more surprising. She let him, scootching closer so she was practically in his lap, and then she was, her head tucked snugly beneath his chin, his arms wrapped protectively around her tiny frame. They sat like that long into the night, him rocking and her taking comfort from his presence.
