It was dark, close to midnight, rain was pouring down from the heavens while gunshots and screams could be heard in the distance.
A lone figure dressed in a black cloak burst through the trees, a blue bundle wrapped tightly in their arms.
'Run…..I have to keep running….I can't let them get him!'
The figure kept running but their speed started to decrease.
'Faster! I have to go faster!"
The figures speed started to increase but they suddenly tripped on a root. They fell on their knees, so the bundle was safe. The figure quickly got back up and started running again.
The figure kept running ignoring the burning in their thighs and their shortness of breath.
The howls and barking in the distance made them run faster, though stumbling every couple feet. But no matter how fast they ran the sounds of dogs kept getting closer.
'I have to get him to safety I promised I would!'
It was then a large Doberman jumped in front of the figure. Stopping short the figure started to back up but the sound of growling made them turn around and freeze.
They were surrounded.
A feeling of despair washed over them as three more came from the trees, turning to their left to face the three newcomers but keeping the previous two in sight the figure started to back up slowly before stopping just before the ledge behind them. The five dogs locked the figure in a tight semi circle with the only way out being the steep hill behind them.
'….Fuck….'
"It's over, hand the child to me." A deep voice called from the tree line.
The figure growled, emerald green eyes narrowing dangerously, pulling the bundle closer to their body. The figure watched as the man stepped out from behind the trees.
"Terrence" The figure hissed, the voice distinctly female.
"Hello young Jessica, I would love to chat but unfortunately you have something I want." Terrence glared.
The figure – Jessica growled lowly.
"GIVE ME THE CHILD!" Terrence snapped.
'I got no choice.'
Jessica's glare darkened.
"Over my dead body." She growled.
"That" Terrence smirked. "Can be arranged."
Jessica turned around and barrel rolled down the hill – making sure the child in her arms stayed safe. As soon as she reached the bottom of the hill she jumped up and started running again.
The trees started to disperse and a road came into view.
'Road….Road leads to civilization…..Road leads to safety'
With a newfound burst of speed Jessica jumped out of the tree line and onto the road. Across the road and down the hill the figure could make out tall buildings and lights.
'Good, a city, I got to keep moving.'
Running into the middle of the road Jessica failed to see the lights of a car heading her way.
The car's horn blared in the air and Jessica froze in her tracks, turning wide eyes to face the car heading her way.
Almost half a foot away from her the car stopped and Jessica's legs gave in, the figure collapsed. Her hood fell off her head to revile long red hair and green eyes.
The car doors opened and two figures stepped out of both doors. With the headlights glaring into her sight, Jessica couldn't make out any of their features.
"Jessie?" A female voice rang out.
Jessica's eyes widened and tears began to form, threatening to fall.
