AN: Hey! This is my first foray into fanfic writing, after many years reading and lurking (sorry, I promise I'll start reviewing more). Just a simple writing exercise to start, with first line prompts, I will try to post daily or at least keep the 30 chapters - 30 days scheme.
This is, as I said, my first fic, and the first time in many years I have tried to write creatively, and it is unbeta-ed, and English is not my first language, so please be kind :)
HHr, EWE, drabble-ish one-shots. Rating may go up if it takes me there.
Disclaimer: If you recognize it, anywhere in the fic, it isn't mine.
Chapter 1
As the policeman pulled back the sheet, she knew immediately that this wasn't the end to her quest. Many law enforcement agents knew her by now, magical or otherwise, she'd been a constant presence in every agency since his disappearance, keeping the search alive. Leads had gone cold, the numerous calls from supposed witnesses had dwindled to almost nothing; but she WAS the smartest witch of her age and her research kept uncovering bits and pieces of information that helped her keep hope. Her perseverance hadn't payed off yet, but every now and then, she'd be called to look at a photo, read a description, or, like at this moment, try to identify a body - those were the hardest moments, the thought of finding him on that metal table was definitely her worst nightmare.
Looking once more at the body before her, she allowed herself a sigh of relief, thanking God and Merlin and whoever listened for small blessings.
Taking a deep breath, she looked up at the man in uniform patiently watching her.
"That's not him," she told the policeman, "not my Harry."
She wouldn't give up. Not while her magic still felt the calling of his own.
