Disclaimer: I really don't own the show
Oliver asked Felicity to dinner. But it was so much more. It was private, only for them to share and enjoy. Nobody has to know. It was step in the right direction. It was hope. Especially when Oliver walked into the restaurant and Felicity turned to see him standing there looking at her. He stood so tall, with that perpetually rare and handsome smile. The one which Felicity was starting to realise was just for her, it bloomed over Oliver's face. Heaven help her, it matched the one she had for him. In that moment everything could be burning and she wouldn't notice. It was better than her wildest dreams.
She should've known nothing lasted forever.
It's selfish but Felicity hopes Oliver remembered her in his final moments. Remembered her in that beautiful red dress she was wearing, the one she was saving and the one that was a perfect match for that gorgeous shade of red lipstick. Felicity remembers Oliver's suit, his walk, his nervous smile that slowly transformed into something more confident, in the few minutes they had together. She remembers how his eyes were a clearer blue than she had ever known them to be and how his voice eased into a charm.
She'll miss the familiar sound of his voice inside her.
Her ear.
She means inside her ear.
She could see the end before it even began and she knew he was going to take her down. But somehow Felicity knew Oliver remembered the broken perfection of their kiss in hindsight, she does. Felicity could still feel the heat in her own cheeks, making them rosy under his touch of his palms. While Oliver's hands framed her face and his fingertips slipped into her hair.
His old spare shirt is in her room but she can't even look at the hood in its glass case.
It was their very last kiss. Felicity didn't ask Oliver the unthinkable, to stay safe- with her. To say he'd see her again. She wanted to though. She wanted to ask him to remember her in his wildest dreams. To think about their future all tangled up together. He probably doesn't, the future he saw for himself was so bleak. Instead she told him to finish it and to try do all he could to come back to her. Though she bets that when he left her, the memories followed him around.
She had thought she would see him again. That Oliver would be back. That he would be there to follow her down to the foundry with the sunset behind them. That, together with their team, they'd carry that fire into the dark with them and make sure it burns through the night.
Now instead when Felicity resurfaces from the lair into the sunrise after a long night of battling monsters without Oliver and she thinks she sees a glimpse of him making his way back to her in the haze of light.
After a heartbeat Felicity blinks and she realises it's just pretend, just in her wildest dreams.
Unapologetically inspired by Taylor Swift's Wildest Dream.
I've wanted to write to this for ages, and then this happened but it sat on my laptop for a while cause it's a little angsty and Christmas was not the time, but Boxing Day is fair game. Oliver will probably be back, so this is just a way for me to deal with hiatus and the episodes without him.
Cheers for getting to the bottom and Happy Holidays everyone.
