David never thought he would see Ruby in this sort of light, he is married after all. It all started soon after the Spell of Shattered Sight, and she was helping him at the sheriff's station. She was just sitting at the desk, nothing special, when David discovered that he could not take his eyes off of her.
"David, get a hold of yourself!" David told himself. "You are a married man; you have Mary Margaret back home and a baby; you can not fall in love with Ruby!"
Still, he found himself staring at her throughout the day. After a while, he told Ruby to go to Granny's and pick up some lunch.
In the car on the way to Granny's, Ruby thought about the way David had been staring at her during work. There was no mistaking the confusion in his eyes, yet there was something more, something she had only seen in his eyes when he looked at Snow or Emma. Ruby believed that something else was love. The mere idea of David loving her, nearly made Ruby drive right off the road.
Back at the station, David had been pondering what to do about his new found feelings for Ruby. Mary Margaret was going to be wondering what was behind his eyes when ever he and Ruby made eye contact. Should he tell Ruby? No...that would only wreck their friendship. Should he go talk to Dr. Hopper? Where would he tell Mary Margaret he was going?
"Love's the worst." David groaned. Not five seconds later, Ruby walked in with their food.
"Thanks for the food, Ruby, but I have gotta go." David said, trying not to make eye contact with the person he so suddenly found so beautiful. "I'll see you in about an hour." And with that, he dashed out of the station. Ruby stood at the window, watching him drive away and was a bit surprised if not startled to see him pull into Dr. Hopper's office.
"David! What a surprise to see you!" Dr. Archie Hopper said as David walked into his office with a troubled face. "What's wrong, you don't seem too well."
"It's love, Archie. I am in love with Ruby."
