He's Smiling for HerFanfiction:Heartland:Oneshot
Summary: Ashley Grant loves Ty Baldwin despite the differences that would make the situation impossible.
Hope you like it! It's my first ever Heartland fic, so don't be too tough on me! Thanks.
Ty… Ty Baldwin. It is a name that makes my heart pound and my head spin. All logic says to flee from this boy. After all… what doe he have to give me? He has no money. No place in society. And he works for a rival stable. He has nothing to give. And yet, I feel he could give me the world. Alas, he does not love me… despite my high social status and monetary worth. He doesn't even like me. He tries to hide it, but I see the disgust in his eyes. Once I tried to tell him that I liked him… even loved him… but he turned his back. Why am I so revolting to him?
"Am I not the prettiest girl in town?" I ask.
"No," he says, "you are not".
"Who is," I then ask, seeing that there is competition for him.
"Amy," he says, and he need say no more. I know which Amy he speaks of. But he continues. "She is not only the most beautiful girl in town, but in the whole world. I love her," he says. His eyes fill with an all-encompassing look of awe, excitement, and adoration. The way I'd always wished he'd look at me. A single tear falls down my cheek. I brush it away.
"Why?" I ask.
"Do you really want to know?" He replies.
"Yes," I say breathlessly.
"Amy," he said, and he smiled at the sound of her name, "Amy has more heart than any person I've ever met before. She really cares. I really mean something to her. You can't have that with just anybody." He smiled again, and it begins to annoy me, because he's not smiling for me… he's smiling for her.
"I care about you, Ty," I started; "you could have that with me." His eyes widen,
"Do you really believe that?" He asked softly, but with disbelief in his big green eyes.
"Yes," I say, thinking he's finally realized the truth of it.
"Well," he says, and then pauses, "it's not true."
"Why not?" I ask again.
"I've already answered that question, but I'll gladly tell you again. Amy, I love her. She loves me, and that's the way that it's always going to be. Sorry," he says, with genuine concern in his voice.
I run to my car and jump in as fast as I can, hoping that the tears streaming down my face don't block my vision. I wait a second and see that Amy has come out of the house.
"Who was that?" She asks looking toward the tinted window of my pale blue car. "No one important," he answered with a dismissive wave of his hand.
He turns to her with a look of sheer adoration and says, "You know I love you, right Amy? You know I always will." The corners of her mouth turn up in a smile.
"And I love you too, Ty." Her smile grows wider as he leans over to kiss her. I turn away. When I turn around I see him slip his arm around her waist and pull her in tighter for an even longer kiss. She runs her hand through his thick dark hair. I can't stand it anymore. I drive away, regardless of how the tears will affect my driving. After all…
I'd rather die than see any more of this.
