Title: Five Things That Never Happened

Rating: K+ to be on the safe side.

Genre: General

Disclaimer: I wish I owned Avatar, but those guys at Nickelodeon have it all, even my sanity. So sad…

Summary: Read the title, that pretty much says it all. This is a collection of short snippets dealing with things that never happened in the Avatar World, and if they had happened the show would be completely different. Five for each Nation, so really, it should be called twenty things that never happened.

Fire Nation

Ozai's first child was stillborn, his second a girl, and Ozai cursed his luck.

The Fire Lord loved his nephew like his lost son; this made it that much easier for Zuko to poison his uncle's tea.

Lu Ten sat impatiently, his leg useless in a cast, as his father burned Bah Sing Se to the ground.

Ozai cannot believe his eyes as Iroh returns to claim his rightful place with the late Lu Ten at his side.

Azula fell in love and ran away, Ozai cancelled the war council, and Zuko was bummed because he had finally talked his uncle into letting him in.

Earth Kingdom

Toph jumps excitedly as her newest dress finally arrives from Ba Sing Se and proceeds to spend hours in front of her mirror, completely ignoring her earthbending lessons.

The boy miscalculated and he paid the price: his hands crushed between mail carts, Bumi could never earthbend quite well afterwards.

The old king is dead and the new king orders a full defense of Omashu. The city falls of course, but there is nothing worth conquering left.

When Oma was five she fell prey to a fever that left her unable to walk. When Oma was twenty-five her village was destroyed by a man named Shu. Both names were forgotten.

Ba Sing Se put up a courageous defense against the Dragon of the West but its ashes covered the entire Kingdom with grief.

Water Tribes

Arnook's daughter was returned to the sea before she even lived and all of the North cried for her.

Prince Zuko found nothing in the frozen tundra of the south except for a rag-tag group of peasants and one lovely Waterbender.

Sokka never forgave himself for letting his sister drown under the ice when she was only seven.

Zhao put the fish down and turned away; the Fire Lord would deal with his brother's betrayal.

Aang died at 98 and far away a girl named Katara cried for the first time.

Air Nomads

Gyatso loved Aang like a son, too much to allow the boy to become an avatar at twelve, which was why the old monk stole the boy away in the dead of night.

Sozin had not anticipated the Avatar's wrath, and that tiny oversight cost him his army, his kingdom and his head.

After much deliberation, it was agreed that Gyatso was right, that they should wait, and Sozin's comet did his army no good against the enemies they could not reach.

Appa was too ill to fly, so Aang set off on foot, however reluctantly.

Aang looked at his brand new tatoos with pride. Somehow, the pink arrows didn't feel quite right.

Author's Notes: OK, so that was a silly little thing I scribbled on my way to work. I particularly like the Water Tribe things, but that's just me, while I think the Air Nomad ones are particularly weak, but we don't know that much about the Air Nomads. I am however pleased with giving Aang pink arrows. That's it for now, although REVIEWS might make me write more things that never happened or elaborate on any one of these.
