Hey guyssssss!!!
I know this isn't my usual story... But I really needed some cuteness right now. This new totally for fun and laughs story is based off of the KBS reality show "Return of Superman"- basically, dads take care of their kids alone for 48 hours. If you haven't seen it I highly suggest you go check it out on YouTube!!! Don't worry, there's closed captions for those who don't know Korean.
I don't think I write enough of Lux being the family man we all know he secretly is.
And so... Without further ado... Return of Superman Star Wars style episode 1!!!
ooooooooooooo
Morning, Day 1Lux's first 48 hours alone began with him waking up even before the sun.
Careful not to jostle either of the sleeping four month olds, he sat up and waited for his eyes to adjust to the dim lighting. "'Mina..."He muttered as he checks role that both twins are in sight. The older twin is lying on her stomach in the middle of the mat, and her brother is in the left corner, nearly crammed into the barrier.
Lux smiled a bit as he gently reached over and picked his son up in his arms. The baby stirred, threatening to wake, but Lux was able to lull him back asleep before he does. "Shh..."Lux soothed, patting his back, and bounces his knees a few more times just to make sure he succeeds in putting him back to sleep. Then, Acelin is placed next to his sister.
They get hungry every three hours. Ahsoka's words remained in Lux's mind as he trudged to the kitchen, still half asleep.
You have to feed them separately, though. Ahmina tries to steal from Acelin and he doesn't know how to guard his food yet.
Lux can't remember that bit as he easily finds one of the numerous bottles lined up next to the sink. Selecting two, he has to look at one of the notes his wife left for directions.
The directions were awfully vague to a rookie like himself. "Half a cup?" That seemed like a lot more than what he usually saw Ahsoka prepare. Nevertheless, he obeyed and even tested both bottle temperatures on his wrist. Then he set them on the counter and waited-
Right on cue, Lux heard a baby's fussing from down the hall. He remembered the first time, just a few weeks ago that the twins had begun to vocalize, growing out of the hindrance of silence from being half Togruta. From the pitch and how long each bout was sustained, Lux guessed it was Ahmima.
His conjecture was proven true when he entered the room again, having to adjust once more to the dimness of the twins' environment.
She was half crawling, half dragging her way over her brother, who had awoken but was more annoyed, rather than frustrated, and remained silent.
"Stop pushing your little brother."Lux said calmly, as if they were four years old instead of four months old. Acelin looked hopeful at his interference but the older twin just continued on, now on a quest to arrive in Daddy's arms to where Lux had settled in a seated position as he watched the sight. They were like a litter of kittens, one rolling atop the other, more submissive sibling.
The first major crisis came when Ahmima accidentally pushed her brother's head straight into the floor. That got him crying, but she showed no regret as Lux quickly scooped Acelin up for the second time that morning and left her alone among the vast space.
"You don't use your brother like he's a jungle gym."Lux scolded, trying (and failing) to look stern at her. But it was hard to stay mad at your child, especially a baby, for long.
"Poor Acelin. Having to deal with a big sister shoving you around." Whether or not Acelin understood, Lux didn't know as he watched his son's focus on feeding himself. His tiny hands encompassed either side of the bottle, but Lux still had to keep it tilted.
Make sure he drinks at least half.
Acelin had been born small, small enough to end up in the neonatal care unit at the hospital and he still worried his parents by not eating enough.
This morning, though, as if trying to give dad a break, Acelin drank nearly two thirds before giving up and having to be burped.
Ever since becoming a dad, Lux had been wearing clothes that becoming less and less nice as time went on. Clothes that were not missed if they got baby spit up or what-not on them from tasks like burping.
Acelin's head bounced up and down a bit as coughs were forced out of him from gentle patting. As soon as his sister realized that food was near, she hurriedly scooted to where she was sure Lux could see her. When he did nothing to acknowledge her, (or maybe it was the supposedly smug look on Acelin's face,) Ahmina began to protest against the injustice of taking turns.
Lux honestly didn't know how Ahsoka put up with it. While he was off in his comfortable, peaceful office she was here having to deal with screaming twins and trying to love them equally.
No wonder she had accepted this break so easily. It was much needed.
I liked it better when you were quiet... Lux thought as he went on ignoring her. Not to be mean, but because he just couldn't get to her right this split second!
I need more hands. Or the force.
Or some help...
No. Ahsoka was not allowed to be worrying about the kids for this 48 hours. These were Lux's 48 hours.
Aidan was off with his girlfriend at the base. Redia was with Ahsoka to keep her distracted for the "girls weekend".
And, it was sad to say it, but Lux had no friends. Except maybe Sashu, who was off in "Togruta land"somewhere on the outskirts of the city and had his own people to hang around.
And as his daughter's crying got louder, Lux honestly wanted to cry too. Finally, he sat down with his legs crossed and swapped babies, now with Ahmina lying across his lap and eagerly drinking. One of her hands was even greedily reaching for the bottle Acelin hadn't finished.
While she satisfied her appetite, Lux was focusing on her tiny lekku. They appeared longer, or maybe it was because another stripe was forming, making a total of six across all of them. Her montrals were still just little knobs on the top of her head.
The doctor had been just as surprised as he himself was when he first saw the stark difference in the looks each twin exhibited: usually, hybrids were more, well, a mixture like Aidan had been, instead of one being almost entirely Togruta and the other completely human. Those dominant and recessive, or just the Togruta/human genes in general must have had a field day in creating them.
His eyes glanced up to check on Acelin, who was casually chewing on the ear of a stuffed bear. Amused, Lux glanced back down and resumed observing his daughter.
"You're supposed to be the older, more responsible one, you know. Not a troublemaker." He instructed, bopping her cute little nose and causing her to smile mischievously around the bottle.
"You held your brother up in the womb, remember that? You should support him now, too."
He had no idea if she even knew what he was saying or cared, but was satisfied by the single blink of her dark blue eyes as she drank the bottle dry.
He stepped over the side of the mat and sat down inside the space, setting Ahmima back down so he could observe their play. There was no more crawling over each other, which was always a good sign.
On his belly, Acelin was struggling to lift his head just high enough to make eye contact with Lux, then would stare until he couldn't hold up any longer.
Ahmina, however, was already much faster than her brother in terms of mobile development. With Lux's hands hovering close by for safety, she could sit up for 1...3...6! seconds all by herself before falling forward in a laughing fit.
"You're so happy!" Lux exclaimed, being much more goofy than he'd like to admit. He clapped his hands together, earning another big smile from the older twin as she imitated.
Upon closer inspection, Lux realized that his daughter indeed had fangs growing in.
Fangs... The idea was so alien to him, but two of his three biological children (Redia was not Ahsoka's) had ended up with
them.
Curious, and maybe worried as well, Lux leaned over and gently placed a finger inside Acelin's mouth and around his gums to inspect for any sign of him getting them too. He could feel abrasions, but it wasn't possible to tell if they would turn out to be fangs or not.
Acelin tossed his head and forced Lux to withdraw his intruding digit and admire his son from a distance. From the moment he was born, Acelin had proven to be a carbon copy of himself (despite his Togruta DNA) and in a selfish way, Lux never wanted that to change. They already had Aidan as the more human appearing hybrid, and Ahmina the more Togruta one.
Lux had even seen Togruta/human hybrids that had both hair and Lekku. That was one feature both he and his wife were glad his children didn't have. It was just so odd looking.
He watched as Ahmina slowly maneuvered her way to her brother's side, and Acelin subsequently dropped his stuffed toy and looked away from her. Lux watched the scene with a bit of disappointment- Ahsoka had said that Ahmina had a severe case of "dominant twin" syndrome, but he didn't want Acelin growing up thinking he had to be bullied like that just because he was younger and smaller.
"Take it back, son."He whispered, to which Acelin looked disinterested in the idea and instead looked to his father instead. Lux frowned but couldn't refuse him as he lifted his son, once again and held him close.
Of the few times he played with toys:they were taken by his sister. Of the many times he was in either parents' arms: his sister began to fuss, too and would be answered as well.
It was a hard life for Acelin Bonteri.
Lux pondered the issue as he held his son close, smiling at him while Acelin explored his father's face with two smooth, soft, tiny hands. In turn, Lux ran a hand through his son's seemingly infinite amount of long, dark hair, identical to what he himself had as an infant.
"I don't think you two have ever been outside, have you?" Lux asked rhetorically, answering the question himself. No, they hadn't.
The Galaxy had been freed from Imperial tyranny just a few years ago, and Onderon was as it had been before any war had afflicted it. Lux wanted his children to embrace that. The only time they had been outside was after they had been born and half of Onderon had been waiting to see their formal introduction to the public as the next of the Bonteri line. The next legitimate members, anyway. Aidan was, unfortunately, illegitimate as he had been born before Ahsoka and Lux were married. Redia was adopted from a previous marriage, also a big no-no.
"I think we should go outside." Lux declared. Now, all he needed was to get them changed.
Oh, boy. Had Ahsoka left instructions for this? Lux had never put a onesie on a baby in his life.
He had also never changed a diaper.
"Oh,boy." The Senator muttered to himself as he looked to his innocently smiling daughter.
This was going to be just fine.
