CONFUSED
Emma Swan was confused.
Really, really confused. As confused as she'd been when Henry had first come to her and announced that she was the savior of a town in the Middle of Nowhere, Maine. Maybe even more confused…
Captain Hook was serious. Or at least, he seemed serious, ever since he'd agreed to help her and her family. (Yes, she considered Mr. Gold and Regina family.) Anyway, she wasn't used to it. Hook's seriousness. Especially not for this long a time. Sure, he could be serious, but that was usually for short periods of time…and then he'd throw in some sort of innuendo to ruin it. But he hadn't done that yet…it was unsettling for her to say the least.
And not only was he serious, but stoic and calm. He was a completely different Hook from the one that she remembered. She wondered what had changed. Sure, he'd apparently decided to come to the good side, but he'd also…given up his revenge? Called a truce with Rumpelstiltskin? WHAT had happened to the man? Was this really Captain Hook or was this some impostor, like what Cora had done with Lancelot?
These were the thoughts running through her mind as she observed Hook at the wheel of the Jolly Roger from her position on one of the wooden boxes scattered on the deck. Silent. Stoic. It didn't SUIT him…had he been putting on a façade every time they'd run into each other (or a car ran into one of them)? But you couldn't fake anything when you were in pain, right? Well, okay, you could fake how MUCH pain you felt, but you couldn't hide anything else because you were so focused on hiding that pain. So there was no way he'd been hiding much of anything after he got hit by Greg's car, right?
Okay…maybe she was a little hysterical. It had been a long 24 hours…or was it 48 hours? More? Less? Time worked differently here in Neverland…
"What are you thinking, Swan?"
Emma startled at the voice and nearly fell off the box. "Huh?" she replied smartly.
Hook turned from his position at the wheel enough that he could look at her. Normally, he would have raised an eyebrow, she thought. Not this time.
"You've been staring at my back for some time, now. Care to explain?" he asked her.
"It's nothing," she mumbled, switching her gaze to the foreboding ocean that had no end. Hook didn't respond. She could feel him watching her, but didn't react. Eventually, she felt his eyes leave her. Turning her head, she saw that he had turned back to the wheel. No comments. No wisecracks. No innuendo…
Emma Swan was REALLY confused.
