SUMMARY: Another filk from John Denver, this time from his lively, lilting "Here's to Alaska."

Slim:
I came to this land with my father and mother,
And marvelled at mountains that reached to the sky.
Took a chance on a drifter who charmed my kid brother,
And now I've a pard till the day that I die.
We stand firm together against every danger,
And I'm sure in my heart that he'll always be there,
He's my partner, my brother, my friend till forever,
And with him at my side there's no job I won't dare.
Here's to Wyoming,
Here's to my partner,
Here's to the mountains and ranges so free,
Here's to my life in this chosen country,
Here's to Wyoming and me!
Jess:
I was raised on hard times in the Panhandle country,
And left on my own at scarcely fifteen.
Fetched myself up with my gun up for hire,
It's a marvel to me that I ain't killer-mean.
Now I sleep every night in a bed warm and cozy,
And wake up to cookin' that's plenty and fine,
Got a piece of a ranch that I'll fight to hold onto,
And a partner who brought me this new life of mine.
Here's to Wyoming,
Here's to my partner,
Here's to a land that means fam'ly to me,
Here's to my life in this chosen country,
Here's to Wyoming and me!
Both:
Oh for a fire on a cold winter's night,
And laughter and yarning by bright ranchhouse lights,
For all of the beauty that each day I see,
Here's to Wyoming and me.
Here's to Wyoming,
Here's to our friendship,
Here's to the land that we'll keep clean and free,
Here's to a life in this chosen country,
Here's to Wyoming and me...ah,
Here's to Wyoming and me!
