(A/N: This is my first time writing in second person, so I hope I did it correctly and it isn't super boring or anything. This was sort of based on a fic I wrote a long time ago, called Through Glass. You can read it, if you want. Also, I'm not totally sure I like the title of this.)
Picking up the Pieces
"We're only taking turns
Holding this world
It's how it's always been
When you're older, you will understand"-The Fray, Trust Me
You first have a crush on Leah when you are ten. It's love like any ten year old feels-you'll get married and live happily ever after.
You are twelve when Leah starts dating Sam, when you learn that not everything ends in happily ever after.
You have just turned fourteen when Leah is shattered. You use this as an opportunity to pick up the pieces of her heart, to get closer to her, to teach her how to love again.
Your sixteenth year is the most life changing. You help Bella Swan out of her depression and she becomes your best friend. You never see Leah anymore, but you don't regret it. The only thing you can think about it Bella.
Age sixteen is also when you phase for the first time. You learn that the legends are true, and you no longer hate Sam for leaving Leah, now that you understand. You want to tell Leah, explain that Sam still loves her, but you are forbidden.
You are alone, except for the four wolves you share thoughts with.
You are sixteen when Leah becomes a "freak among freaks," as she puts it. The first and only female werewolf. You can no longer think of Leah in wolf form, because she will hear you. You think of Bella instead, pretend it was Bella you loved all along.
Pretty soon, you do love Bella.
Bella chooses the leech over you. You are heart broken, but in a way, it also makes you happy. Now you and Leah have another thing in common-you were both left by someone you loved.
Leah still hates you, even with your new similarities.
You save Leah from a newborn vampire, hoping that maybe Leah will see you in a different way now, now that you saved her.
Leah doesn't act any differently.
Just a little while before your seventeenth birthday, you start your own pack. You can't take anymore of Sam.
Seth and Leah join you. Leah seems a little different in your pack, but you still don't let her know your secret-that you've loved her practically all your life.
It is then that your worst nightmare becomes a reality. You imprint. On Bella's half leech daughter. You have no choice but to give up your love for Leah. Your imprint is the only thing that matters now.
You keep phasing, staying the same age, living life with your imprint. Leah stops phasing as soon as possible, and you watch her age, even though you never age yourself.
You are still physically sixteen when you say goodbye to Leah.
She is on a hospital bed; you are standing next to her, holding her hand. She wanted you to be the last person she saw.
You are still holding Leah's hand for several minutes after her last breath has passed. She is eighty-seven, and you are still sixteen.
She will never know about your love for her, about how you wanted to live happily ever after with her.
You may still be sixteen, but a little piece of you dies inside with Leah.
(A/N: Was this good? I like it, but not as much as my other fics. The original idea for this was just the last part with Leah dying, but I guess I expanded it by about 400 words…Also; there is something sort of like this on Stephenie Meyer's site that Stephenie wrote called Being Jacob Black. I wasn't trying to copy that or anything. Obviously in Stephenie's version, Jacob isn't in love with Leah. I'm really curious to hear what you guys think of this. I might write a companion piece for Leah in this same style. Reviews are love!)
