Title: Heal
Disclaimer: Arakawa owns Fullmetal Alchemist. Except for Elise, whom I have created.
Summary: An incapacitated Jean Havoc ponders and comes to a conclusion
Comments: Havoc needs some love; he's disappeared in the manga for a while. Might be spoilers for later manga chapters. Maybe OOC-ness.
It was amazing, Jean thought, how the stuff inside hurt more than the physical stuff. Heartaches, he decided, were more like burns than the conventional ache. They were like fire, if the past month was an indication.
Havoc slouched down in the wheelchair, grinning ruefully at his currently useless legs. Wounded on duty by a homunculus, and he could only tell people that he was stabbed by a woman. What an excuse.
Ah, it wasn't like him to think so deeply about things. Come to think of it, wasn't that what…Elise? She said that his impulsive nature was thrilling. Now there was a fine girl, and one of the few he'd managed to keep away from the Colonel.
He hadn't seen her in two weeks. She said she was going to visit her grandfather, but it was probably an excuse. It wasn't likely that Elise would come back to stay, not with the way he was now.
Jean Havoc was tired of being left behind. It wasn't like he wanted to be.
He remembered the desperation, the refusal, the blind hope in Mustang's eyes. Almost begging him not to give up. Desperately hoping that things would turn out okay and everyone would be happy.
Those eyes. Jean didn't want pity. He wanted to feel useful again.
Roy left without looking behind. It was the last time Jean saw him. Actually, he thought, it was the last time he saw all of them. Breda, old pal, was transferred. Fuery, Falman, even Hawkeye were gone.
"Jean, honey? There's someone here to see you."
A shadow fell across the floor. Havoc recognized the faint scent of her perfume and her light footsteps.
Elise.
"Hi, Jean." She said shyly. He felt her warm arms and relaxing into her tight embrace.
Jean smiled for the first time in days and pulled himself up. There were a lot of people waiting for him. He'd get to the top.
