Dagger stood in the front room of the Invincible
with Steiner and Vivi. They were all quiet. They had a lot
on their minds. They couldn't believe everything that had
happened on their journey, and they were thinking about
it, and trying to make sense of it.
Dagger wished that she didn't have to be on the
ship that killed both of her mothers. She decided to take
a walk around the ship.
When she left the room, she looked to her left
and saw Zidane sitting on a bench. He was slouching, and
didn't look very happy.
He sat up and leaned forward, and put his hands on
his face. Dagger hated seeing him so sad, and wanted to
know what was wrong.
She walked closer to him. "Zidane?" she said.
Zidane quickly looked up at her, and quickly stood up,
and tried to act like nothing was wrong.
" Oh, um, hi Dagger," he said, trying to act natural.
"You don't have to pretend Zidane," Dagger said,"I know
something's wrong." Zidane let out a little sigh.
"It's not a big deal," he said in a sad voice," You don't
have to worry about it." "If something is bothering you
then I do have to worry about it," Dagger said." You can
tell me anything," she said softly."What's wrong?"
Zidane sighed. " It's just...," he started. He
sighed again. "Why can't I have parents? Why do I have to be
some creation?" he said in a sad and frustrated voice." It's
not fair. If I don't have parents, then I'm not even human."
He turned around, facing his back towards Dagger.
Dagger was hurt by his words. He didn't think he
was human? Of course he was. And he was right, he should
have parents, and he had a right to feel the way he was feeling.
Dagger walked up to him and put her hand on his shoulder.
"You are human Zidane, what else could you be?" she said.
Zidane paused for a moment. " I'm just a Genome. I'm just
a stupid creation. I'm not even real."
Dagger couldn't believe he thought that about himself.
Hearing him talk so lowly about himself almost brought her
to tears.
Dagger turned him around and made him face her. They looked
into each other's eyes. Dagger couldn't bear all of the pain she saw
in his eyes. She had to make him relize that he was more than what
he was saying.
"Zidane," she said," You're real, and you're human, and you
mean so much to us...and to me..." Zidane looked into her eyes.
He saw how much she meant what she was saying, and how much he did
mean to her. He gave her a little half smile. "You're right," he said.
"I still wish I had parents, but, you're right. Thanks"
Dagger hugged him tight. He hugged her back.
"You've done so much for me and comforted me when I needed
someone the most," Dagger said." So, now it's my turn."
Zidane hugged her tighter, and smiled.
