"Don't do this!" he said as she signed the sheet. "No, Doc!"

"Colonel you need this down time. That last mission almost killed you," she said, and he heard the briefest hint of pain in her voice.

He closed his eyes, trying not to remember. Three months. That's how long he had been trapped on that God-foresaken planet. And it had nearly killed him. He had been shot, but the bullet had just clipped him, nothing too life threatening. What's worse was that he had almost forgotten Carolyn, the color of her eyes, the scar she has on her left shoulder blade from when she was a kid, the sound of her voice and the feel of her touch.

Still, he didn't want the down time, he wanted things to get back to normal, he wanted to go on normal missions with his normal team. He wanted to make love to his normal girlfriend. He wanted normal back. "Carolyn," he said, changing from the whiny patient to just Cam, "please," he begged.

"Cam," she said, her voice dropping lower so no one would hear, "Its just down time, it won't kill you. I'm not doing this to be mean, I don't hate you, I'm just trying to save you while there's still something left of you to save. If that bullet had been just a little to the left... I... Cam..."

He hated the fear in her voice, the fear that said in so little words that there might be a day when he wouldn't come back to her. He was scared of that too, but hell, who wouldn't be. To never touch her again, to not be with her, to never hear her laugh or see her smile... that would really kill him.

He groaned in consent, he would take the downtime, "Fine," he grumbled.

"I love you," she whispered, pressing a kiss to his cheek while she pretended to check his bandages.

"Love you too," he mumbled attempting to kiss her but stopping short as the General walked into the infirmary.

She smiled, "And if you're lucky I'll give you a full physical later," she winked at him and he couldn't help but laugh.

"Sure thing Doc," he said, "Sure thing."
