How Bean Met Massie

Author's Note: This is my first FanFic, so it might not be that good. Also, most people think Bean is a boy, but she is in fact, a girl. I would be eternally grateful for your review.
Massie couldn't believe the big day was finally here! She was going to get a pet! She was thinking about a rabbit, maybe a guinea pig. And those hermit crabs with painted shells? Ah-dorable!
Massie's thumbs worked her Nintendo DS (in pink, of course) like a potter's worked clay. She was ten years old, and a DS was the ultimate status symbol. She was playing her absolute favourite game, the one she got for birthday, Nintendogs. In the game, she owned a pug that she had named Bean.
Her father's car pulled up to the curb in front of the pet shop.
"Come on, Mass, time to find your new friend!" said Kendra, Massie's mother.
Massie switched off her pocket-sized console and leapt out of the car. She couldn't wait. Her parents had driven her into New York City, so she could go to a bigger pet shop. Her pet was part of her birthday present that year.
She wandered through the rows of cages and tanks, oohing at the leopard gecko, ahhing at the pink kisser fish, and AAHHing when she saw a snake eat a live mouse. The love birds were pretty, and the hermit crabs were colourful, but she couldn't find exactly what she wanted. Massie wanted something cuddly and soft, something that made her feel like the most important person in the world. Something to make it all better when she cried, and to make a good day the best day. But where was this perfect creature? Wandering the pet store, she had yet to find it.
