Title: Last letter.

Summary: Sirius writes his last letter home, trying to explain why he got into Gryffindor.

Dear mother,

I write you to share a bit of unpleasant news with you. I'm not in Slytherin. I'm sorry. I'm in Gryffindor. Once again, I'm sorry.

Please, don't burn this letter yet.

Please, allow me to explain.

I love our family, yes I do. But our love means boundaries, our love smothers me. I drown in care and expectations.

It scares me out of my wits.

I'm not truly a Gryffindor. I'm not brave. The only reason I ended up there is that I begged the hat to get me away from you. From you all.

Because, I can't live in the same house as the others. They won't me allow me to be. They'll try to make me follow the paths our family has taken before.

Mother, you know, I'm not a follower. I can't follow the lead of the family.

And that's why, mother, I choose Gryffindor. Please let me be.

I write this letter in the hope you're well.

Give my love to Regulus and father.

Yours sincerely,

Your son?

Sirius Black.
