Author's note

Yes, I do know that black and white aren't primary colors. There is actually much debate on the topic. The most agreed upon one I've found is "pure colors", but that didn't really work with this, so primary colors it is! ps, I thought of this at around midnight, so, yeah, wasn't thinking all that clearly.

Sakura sat against the tree and just watched them. Watched them spar, each anticipating the other before even occurred to themselves. Sasuke, bringing up a block before the attack happened. Naruto, waiting for a kick that came a split second later. The fluidity of movement. The ensemble of support. It was always them, never one or the other.

Light and dark. Black and white. The primary colors.

But they weren't the primary colors of light. When light illuminated darkness, it was alone against the black. They weren't like that. They were together, whole. When they fought it wasn't a battle, it was a dance. There was never a chance of hurt, only exhilaration, power, strength.

But they weren't the primary colors of paint, either. When black and white were swirled together, they made gray. They weren't gray. Gray was the color of a dreary dawn, of exhaustion and sorrow. They weren't gray— they were radiance. They were the sunrise, the light flooding through the darkness until they both flew up to magnificence. They never outshone each other, yet they merged into one.

They were a whole new kind of primary color. They were the stars that shone brilliantly against the shadow of space, lighting it up to see its true beauty. Yet they were also that same glorious dark, and without that absence, the light couldn't be seen. Together they were the meteoroids hurtling through their alliance, the planets that arose with their triumphs. They were the orange comet that was Kakashi, the pink shooting star that was her. They were the balance of the universe.

Sasuke and Naruto. Naruto and Sasuke.

They were that kind of primary color.
